PC Peripherals PC for a friend

NOTE:DO NOT ask me to search the forums for threads relating to the topic as i'll be having my own doubts,queries and problems.If you think its so easy to search for what you want then i'd recommend that you do that your self and copy/paste the information from there.Searching also requires time,which i dont have at the moment.I've also taken quite an effort to post his probelms in detail.

Now,

My friend wants to go for a PC costing 40k-45k.

I recommended him to go for an AMD system.As you all know,the problem is that the computer dealers themselves do not have any knowledge about computers and think that AMD has a lot of problems.My friend seems to be facing the same situation.

Motherboard--->Right now i think that it would be good if he goes for the ASUS A8N-SLI deluxe as it would be pretty future proof.The only thing that i wanna ask is that,will DDR2 support be neccessary for the next 3-4 yrs? Then maybe the whole idea of the AMD system ought to be scrapped.

Processor--->A64 3000+ will do.

RAM--->512MB of DDR400(Don't need 1GB.Which company should he get at the price mentioned?Dont want it to be very expensive(3.6k max)

Mouse and Keyboard--->All that is required is basic features.Lets say 1.2k for both.

Cabinet--->Is it possible to get a good cabinet with a 400W PSU for 4k???And good cooling to.(maybe a 120mm fan and 2 80mm's)

Monitor--->?????No idea at all here(lets say 7 k)

Speakers-Altec Lansing 251

DVD-Writer--->BenQ Dual layer(if it fits into the budget)

GFX card--->Will post later according to his requirement

The only thing that i dont want him to sacrifice upon is the motherboard. (Unless it absolutely allows no chance for any other components/and or doesn't fit into the budget).

I think all this comes around 38k which i think allows some headroom.Not certain though.
Thanks.

How much does all this sum upto?And i think i didn't add certain other components.

Asus A8n SLI is an overkill especially since he is not so keen on gaming, SLI cards are gonna be expensive a better option would be the Nf4 ultra solution by MSI at 9k odd.

Monitor : Philips and Samsung are good so is Viewsonic...

@nikhilesh just follow thw 40K gaming rig thread posted by Aces and instead of the Mobo and graphics card listed there go in for the MSI Readeon chipset mobo... It would be a good config...

I get a strong feeling that DDR2 will go the RDRAM way.DDR3 will be the memory of the future.Currently DDR2 offers hardly any advantages over DDR and thats unlikely to change.By the time DDR2 is available at decent prices and speed bins of 667-800,DDR will likely be able at 500-600 with much lower latencies at similar prices.Many run of the mill chips from Samsung and hynix currently do 500+ with ease.I think PC4000 should be approved by JEDEC.
Also by 2008-2009 DDR3 will arive on the scene.So even if DDR2 does enjoy some popularity it will be shortlived,possibly between late 2006 to early 2008 i.e. 1-2 years at max.In comparison DDR has reigned for almost 4 years now.(though it got a very late start in India thanks to intel's RDRAM misadventure)

1.)Guys PCI-E and support for ALL the 939 pin processors out there is a must.Does the Radeon chipset support these features?Or is it better to go for an MSI NF4 ULTRA?

2.)How is the onboard sound of the radeon chipset.Will the 251 sound good on it?

3.)As far as i know the onboard graphics of the radeon chipset is an x300SE ,right?

4.) I forgot to add the hard-disk.How much is a 80GB/120GB sata drive??

Any other things to watch out for??

And yeah i think he will be playing HL2,farcry,doom3 etc .Only at 1024*768 with some AA/AF though.

So maybe the graphics card will be added later according to his budget(Or he might be getting a 6600GT.)
Right now he wants a good system without a graphics card.

1) Yes it supports all features. However the MSI board lacks pci-e x1 slots. So when those cards come(read sound cards/tv tuners), you'll be stranded.
2) Bad. Its the same AC97.
3) Yes but with two of the four pipes missing
4) 120GB SATA is around 4k

1.)The MSI board has the PCI-E slot right? If it doesn't which NF4 ultra board in particular do you recommend?

2.)Leave the card.He might be getting it later.Do NOT add it into the overall price.

3.)How much will an audigy 5.1 cost?

He needs a socket 939 system,so the k8n wont do.

I think a 3000+ is what he should get atleast.

He will get a gfx card later.

Also guys he's really crazy about getting a wireless keyboard and mouse.

Any good RF wireless keyboard and mice(lets say about 4k maaaax.Try keeping it between 2-2.5k)?

or if you want to save some money get the soundblaster live! 24bit for less than 2k . it supports upto 7.1 audio as well .

Logitech MX Duo for around 3.5k and yes MSI Nf4 ultra has a 16x PCIE slot. But you must remember that it doesnt have onboard gfx nor an AGP slot, so getting a gfx card later wont work unless he has a PCI VGA card.

^^ I am talking abt the radeon xpress 200 board. It does have a 16X PCI-E slot but no 1x PCI-E slots. The neo4 platinum has all x16,x4,x1 i guess.
