@Jambumali: yes the speed might affect. It happened in my area for past 5 yrs, the isp told us to keep lan card speeds to 10mbps only and not 100mbps. But now all got sorted and we can enjoy till 1gbps full.

So thats why i told you to try that way too.

@ronit
Tried with 10MBps with the LAN cable (wired connection). Lower speeds were not available for selection - No improvement noticed.

Tried with the Netgear wireless USB adapter - reduced speed till 10MBps. Lower speeds were not available for selection. Was alright for some time but again the jerks started. It has not rebooted by itself since morning.

Can't afford pull out my hair, have very little left !

As per what u can see everythin works fine. the moment u connect the internet to the comp of urs ur comp concs off. So my advice to u is if possible take out the drive and format it on some one else's comp mostly using command prompt or by connecting it using adapters and then formatin it w/o letting it auto run. Reading all the posts only option left is virus infection.

Some time back faced a similar problem, my comp was infected with a virus and when ever i would connect to the net it would hang and restart. even formatiin it in the system did not work, but when i put it in my friends ccomp and formatted it... it started workin perfectly and no other issues were faced.
Dont assume that having an AV prevents viruses. u might have got it on CD or PD through an app or file which ur AV could not recognize as virus.

The FORMAT i am talkin about is not the quick formats and proper deep clean format with all partitions deleted and the it almost becoming like a brand new hdd.

@lida:

Pl. note that I have actually changed the hard disk + full (not quick) format + install of dual OS.

Can there be something else?

Wow did not know/read that... Sorry man nothin more u can do actually.
Try the last thing log a complain and hope that they come and try to solve it.

Well everybody, apparently my problem is unsolvable!

This is for the one & all who took time out to read & suggest possible solutions - a BIG thank you !

Since your comp is working fine with a live cd, the problem has got to be with either your drivers or with your hdds/ hdd cables/controllers.
Which hdd are the downloads saved to? See if changing that helps.
Try installing Linux on a HDD and see if the problem persists.
You said you're currently dual booting...which os's are you using?

try running your comp with only 1 hdd and see if that helps.
