Steam and DirectDrive IMO are the services that are keeping PC gaming alive. Nothing is better than a digital distribution system to prevent physical theft at the least.
Also, keep in mind the almost unlimited back catalog that PC has. No console has that. It is weird, but I see myself actually playing more older/classic titles than brand new ones.
Agree with you on that. I'm playing more and more games from late 90's early 2000, on my netbook which cannot handle anything newer. And I'm enjoying the titles I had missed out.
