This is my config -

C2D E6550 + CM HyperTX3 (?)
Biostar - TP35D2-A7
2 X 1GB - DDR2
4850 SSonic Edition 1GB
"CORSAIR VX450X"
1 X 1.5TB WD Green ( Windows XP Installed ) - 4 partitions
1 X 500GB WD Caviar - 1 single partition

The problem I am facing is the system shuts down at random , takes some time to reboot again (as in it doesnt start for a few min or restarts on its own at the startup screen)

Yesterday when i started to convert Xvid to MPEG2 (stored on the 500 GB) , the PC shut down and i was able to start it after some time but the 500 GB HDD was not recognised in the BIOS , so I thought it has breathed its last , so i removed it and started the PC , again it ran for some hrs and then again it shut down. Fed up (it was late at night and I had already seen the IT Guys so I tried to turning it OFF & ON again lol.)

Today when I started the PC to my surprise the 500 GB HDD was recognised in the BIOS !! (welcome back "ahem" movies) , but the PC shut down after some time even when that HDD was not connected.

I have narrowed my suspects to 2 , but I would like some experts to give me their opinion on this so I wont name the suspects in case i prejudice ur minds.

Mobo & PSU

I am adding a pic of the everest scan for temps and voltage values.

I hope I dont have a costly upgrade on hands !!

Re: PC giving me a heartattack !!

Have checked for loose connections? On the mobo, the PSU power cable, HDD? Run a SMART check on both HDD's and revert back with the screenshot. Also see if you can run a Memtest.

I used the freeware Memtest and it gave me a chance to run it.

I was able to run a couple of instances so i guess the ram is working fine.

Here is the image for SMART HDD test

After the changing of Proccy Cooler , the PC is not shutting down , but the problem with HDD still persists.

The 500GB is recognized sometimes and sometimes its not !

I am getting a new HDD and transferring the contents to it and then will RMA this one.

What could be the reason for the HDD being recognized sometimes and not recognized sometimes ?
