anybody got any ideas i am at the end.

Hi Fred ,

what you may want to do is , remove the motherboard from the cabinet , remove everything else expect for ram . connect the monitor to the motherboard . remove ide cables and sata . just put the 20+ 4 pin connector and the 12 v power on to the motherboard and try to turn the system on using the jumpers . see if its posting . It is highly unusual that a monitor can shut a system down .
In all my experience , no .
A monitor should not cause a shutdown .

But since you say that the system reboots only while installing OS , you might be probabaly facing an issue with ram , or some HW component .

Try running memtest on the ram , remove all PCI cards expect for video . disable all onboard devices like sound , lan , firewire and see if you can go ahead with installation .

thanks for the answer sorry i posted in the wrong place but the mod can move it to where it is supossed to be couldn't find anywher else:) i have just been through the lot only a cd rom mother board and a graphich card still wouldn't let me install the shop have phoned and they said it works perfect but on doing a backup on another pc it shut down again so i wanted to know if anybody could think that a monitor could cause this as it has its own power saving program get to it before i die :D

Here's what I get. You've installed a new motherboard in one cabinet and after having problems with a WinXP CD, you've replaced it with a working one and tried to re-install XP. But, the PC is shutting down on you. - In this regard, can you be more specific? Is the PC rebooting at the end of the Win XP setup? Are you getting some ntldr missing msg? Is the screen going blank or is the whole PC shutting down?

With regard to your 2nd motherboard, are you removing this new motherboard and placing the old one back in the same cabinet?

Don't panic while posting here. Use capital letters and full stops and describe the problem in more detail. We cannot understand what you are trying to say from your previous posts.

I can suggest that you try creating a new partition via the Win XP CD and then setup windows if you are getting an ntldr msg(all your data on the HDD may be lost).
Also, press F8 during startup(just after BIOS POST) and select VGA mode if your monitor is just going off after setting up WinXP.

Your monitor cannot shut down your PC and certainly not cause problems with the DVD drive.

sorry it's not understood but it is slowly getting there, i did get the message ntlr missing because it would not load the files from the CD kept showing error.thank you for the straight answer with the monitor that is not possible to be the problem.i have tried a new partition and a new HD i dont use commers or full stops i am not a writer and my grammer is ok for me as for the capital letters i am using a laptop at the moment and the caps lock sticks a bit:) as for the ram i that was my thought it is ddr2 i might change that but it is a problem to get it that was the last chip, in the shop. The shop phoned me and they said they have installed windows and they had no problem ? we will see later when i install the english version now i have the spanish on have to chang that but thank you all let you know later how it goes. then give you a full detail, in more detail

Uncle Fred- Nice to see it's sorted out now.:hap2:

BTW, did you go to Elementary School?:p
If yes, you need a refresher course in punctuation and maybe you should hit the 'enter' key more often.:)
