PC under 15,000

hi mates,

Need to buy a PC under 15K for my sister.

A dealer offered the following for 16,500 -

1. Intel Dual core 3.0
2. DG41 ECS elite motherboard
3. 2 GB RAM simtronix DDR3
4. 500 GB HDD seagate
5. Logitech / microsoft wireless keyboard & mouse
6. LG 20 LED model no. E2040T

DVD drive, table UPS available. Please advice should i go ahead with this configuration or any component where i can reduce.

Normal use, internet. No gaming and special purpose.

A better configuration from AMD stables will be --

AMD Athlon IIx3 440 ~ 3300/-
ASUS M4A78L-ME ~ 2700/-
2GB 1333 MHz Corsair ValueRAM ~ 1100/-
Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 500GB SATA II ~ 1700/-
Logitech / Microsoft KB + mouse combo ~ 700/-
Dell 1920IN ~ 5300/- (19" monitor)

I think this will be a better more powerful RIG, tri-core instead of dual-core.
Corsair ValueRAM is better / reliable than Dynet OR Hynix.
All prices from DA's list.
 
500GB Hard disk prices have soared above 2k in the last 1 week whereas 1TB has increased slightly to 2.8k. Not sure why the sudden price rise! Japan effect!
 
^^ why exactly?Presently,AMD is more vfm in the lower end than intel.Even dealers have begun to accept this recently.

2. Gigabyte G41M-T S2P ~ 2.5k
3. 2 GB RAM Corsair or Kingston DDR3 ~ 1.1k
4. 500 GB HDD seagate ~ 2.1k
5. Logitech / microsoft wireless keyboard & mouse ~ 0.7k
6. Dell IN1920 ~ 5.3k

Total: 15k (16k if the monitor is LG E2040T. This is metro city pricing and considering you live in a smaller city the quote you have is very decent (~+3-4%)

The LG E2040T LED monitor costs ~6.3k and for that price you can get a better LED monitor from Dell IN2020M.

If AMD then,
AMD AthlonII X2 250 ~ 2.7k
Asus M4A78LT-M LE ~ 2.7k
 
As far as intel over AMD is concerned, the perception i have is based basis of word of mouth and general discussions.

Would consider Dell over LG.Also change RAM. Any other advice.

^^ Yeah so word of mouth says you have to join IIT to get a good career, you'll aim only for IIT Sir disregarding your interests and strengths.

AMD is offering a Tri-core vs. Dual-core in this case.
The Intel G41 chipset is 4 years old (c. 2007 end) the AMD chipsets 760G is around 3 years old (but supports the latest Thuban based processors too).
The Intel motherboard has a GMA series on-board GPU which can do nothing in this day and age, while the AMD HD 3200 based system can decode HD videos, run Windows 7 Home Premium with basic AERO effects.

Basically I'm trying to tell you pay a little extra and get a much better, up-to-date platform than the Intel G-series chipset which has been EoL since 3 years.
