Hi guys....need ur suggestions for home rig upgrade (budget around 3-4K)

It is a sort of ancient rig, major components are is below:

Intel 915 GAV motherboard
P4 3.06 GHz processor
1GB DDR 400MHz RAM
160GB SATA HDD
The motherboard has been short-circuited, and needs to be replaced
Help me buy a motherboard with on-board graphics that can support my processor atleast.

Or wud it be better to go for a AMD based system as I have to change RAM (DDR2) and motherboard (as intel mobo's are costlier than AMD)

USAGE is not much
just for surfing internet ,watching movies and using MS office.
 
DDR3 is very cheap now-a-days. So i would suggest a DDR3 mobo.

So since you have a budget of 4k and by selling ur RAM+Proccy u would get another 1.5k IMO. So a budget of ~5k-5.5k

U can get the,

AMD Sempron 145 ~ 1.5k
Asus M4A78LT-M LE ~ 2.7k
2GB DDR3 Corsair 1333MHz ~ 1k

Total: 5.2k. This would be a good upgrade considering your current config and budget :)

procy - II X2 - 250 - 2700

DDR3 Transcend Value - 1000

Don't go below this config.

Increase ur budget still to add an 500 GB or 1 TB for lots of space.
 
Asus M4A78LT-M LE no longer available at c2c delhi... he insisted to purchase a asus m4n68 one at the same price of 2730. so i haven't purchase it

my question are:

> any other shop at nehru palace, new delhi selling this motherboard (Asus M4A78LT-M LE)?

> is it better to buy from computer empire selling proccy mother board (Asus M4A78LT-M LE) combo Rs. 250 more than costtocost listed price. I think he is taking benifit from the fact that c2c lacks Asus M4A78LT-M LE.

> please suggest a better substitute.
