Hi All,
I've been using this router for last 2-3 years and didn't had much problem till I was using just my Laptop. Now that the PS3 come into the equation I'm seeing some funny issues of not able to connect to the router/ no IP address being assigned etc.
What exactly happening is that say if I'm connected to the network with my Laptop. Now if I power on my PS3 then the connection at my Laptop just get dropped. Then it tries to catch the wi-fi signal and after that when it tries to get the IP address it fails. I have to repeatedly connect and disconnect the wi-fi to receive a IP address. And in case of the PS3 (ie. PS3 is connected first and I switch on my Laptop) I've to reboot the PS3 to get that IP address. This is drivinng me nuts as I'm not sure where the issue. Can this be any issue with the router firmware? Or is there any problem with the setup itself? Or problem with the PS3 wireless setup? I've connected two laptops before to the network and didn't see this problem.
Another small issue, streaming of High resolution movie(size >8gb, 720p) is bit of jerky although smaller movies runs smoothly. I'm using PS3MediaServer for streaming and seems like the issue is with the router itself for not being able to cop up with the data transfer. Should I just chuck this router and go for a new router itself which will solve both the problems? Or should I try to upgrade the firmware (I don't at all remember the admin login and password).
Would really appreciate any help/pointers..

what is the mode you are using the router as?? (dhcp, PPPoE, gateway, router etc) , also check if you have input a MAC lock, any ip allocation limitation in dhcp table .... check for wireless security closely .... have you enabled cloning??.... if nothing works ... try resetting the modem to factory default ... then add PS3 and then the laptop ...

Router is in DHCP mode, not sure about MAC lock and other stuffs. Will have to take a look at the setup tonight once at home.

Dont play with the MTU unless you know it. Leave the MTU at 1500.

Change the mode to B+G if its not set to that already.

Known problem, I was in the same boat as you are now. Only WRT54G is known to give these problems with Ps3. Are you running v7 ?

I was only able to connect my PS3 after 3 or 4 attempts, each time the router's wireless connection reset itself. I am now using my cousin's WRT54G2 v1, no problems whatsoever. He isn't facing any problem either connecting his laptop/mobile to my v7 WRT54G.

Before I gave up I was more or less inclined to think there was some problem either with MTU or the channel it was configured to work on. After a couple of tries though I gave up & went for the easy solution - changing the router. :)

Try changing the MTU from the main page. It usually is set as Auto, try setting it at 1400 or so.

Look at dropping this further if it did not work already. Try options between 1250 and 1300.

Do let us know if it does the trick!
