Hi,

My current cpu is the Pentium D 805. I'd like to know if it's worth upgrading to an E2160? Would it truly make a big difference?

Thanks,
Maestro

The E2160 is ahead of PD805 in terms of performance, power consumption, better architecture.Even though the PD805 runs at 2.66ghz freqn thats almost 800mhz faster than E2160,E2160 beats PD805 by a higher margin...
Also it depends on your usage..what applications you use...If its browsing, downloading, watching movies then your current rig should be enough to handle this...If you feel its slower you can overclock it safely to above 3.5ghz on stock air cooling...
It was once the best dual core CPU's in market since it can be easily overclocked...
Just google&you could find the results...:cool2:

Mobo in UR siggy has no support for any CORE Architecture CPU, U have to upgrade mobo too.
nukeu666 has a P965 and E2160 for sale in the mkt section. I'm quite sure about getting the board, and not that sure about the cpu. Hence my question. In a way, getting a E2160 would make no sense as the only reason I'm getting the 965 is that it supports my 533 FSB cpu. I'm only considering it
since it may help me sell off my current cpu+mobo.

That's about half of what I do. I'm also quite a heavy user of vmWare and do a lot of video conversion.

Not that concerned about overclocking- it would be nice to try it out, but it wouldn't kill me if I didn't. Both cpu's are good for that, although I think the E2160 would run cooler on stock.

I've found just a single site that tested these two against each other and the E216o won quite handily. Want to find another test that backs up their findings.
The reason I'm asking is that this (very minor) upgrade will probably be my last for a year or so when it comes to the cpu+mobo. Intel really screwed me over when they decided to stop supporting 533 Fsb in the P35.:@

You could opt for nvdia chipset mobos which supports fsb533mhz...Zotac NF610I,Gigabyte GA73VM-S2,Biostar GF7050V

And had they supported dual-channel memory or had more than 2 memory slots, I would have gladly have done so. Thats the only caveat with this board.

dual channel config doesn't make big difference in performance....Aslo this boards have better onboard gfx than 965 mobos...

Perhaps not, but then again we come back to only 2 memory slots. Leaves me no room for upgrade as I already have 2x1GB.

Onboard gfx isn't a problem. The 965 on sale is a P-series, not G. I have a discrete card, and will upgrade to a better one later on. I know the NV boards work well, built a pc for a friend around one of these.

Go fo 2180 it just cost Rs. 3000 with bill.

Do let me know when r you going for upgrade my friend need Cpu and mobo.

i suggest u upgrade to e2160......the pentium d heats up too much and consumes more power as well.....the e2160 is way better in all terms...and then if u debate it doesnt run at the clock speed ur pentium d runs , just push it up to equal the clocks...and even at equal clocks it will run cooler / faster and better :)

i would suggest that you get it.

2 cores. + MUCH cooler.

FYI the Pentium D is also dual core.

No argument on the second part.

^^Not really a significant upgrade in terms of performance unless you OC. Maybe 20~30% more performance.
But your power savings make it worth it.

lol...penntiumD@3.5GHz cannot match Core2@2.13GHz.
i had pentiumD in past... and please please stay away from that proccy.
instead of overclocking pentiumD to 3 or 3.5 better take core2 and take it to 2.66 is also enough.... gives better performance than pentiumd@3.5

Let me know if you go for the E2160. I would be interested in your PD805 if the price is right ;)

I remember reading somewhere that the pentium D 805 is a mad overclocker... could compare to the athlon FXs of those days when OC'd

D805 doesnt stand a chance against the E2160.. I had a E2160 that could do 3.6GHz on air without sweating..
