Just came across this:-

Performance showdown: Windows 7 vs. Snow Leopard

AppleInsider | Apple's Snow Leopard bests Windows 7 in speed tests

Here is the original test by CNET.

Performance showdown: Windows 7 vs. Snow Leopard | Windows 7 Insider - CNET Reviews

Snow Leopard appeared consistently quicker in time-based tests, with faster bootups, shutdowns and MP3 encoding, but Windows 7 showed its muscle in producing better frame rates in games and a significant advantage in Cinebench rendering. Battery life was found to be distinctly better under Snow Leopard, but that would be due to the underlying hardware being optmized for OS X.

No big surprise considering Apple only had to optimize Snow Leopard for specific hardware whereas Microsoft has to cater to a wider range of hardware, isnt it?

^^ u r right bro. I do not understand why people compare a hardware specific product with another product which is caternig larger section along with the quality issue.

boot camp and testing windows on a mac = fail!

instead the tester should have taken an identical laptop or pc and installed windows on that.

Great man!

But I think Windows is the best!

Steve Jobs himself doesn't want his product to be widely accepted by building an operating system which is hardware specific!

cnet comparison was farce. in cnet prizefight, they gave snow leopard more points in compatibility. for gods sake, windows 7 is compatible with and runs on huge set of h/w and snow leopard runs on a specific set of h/w.

Of course iTunes and Quicktime are both Apple products that are optimized for the mac, I would imagine if you ran Microsoft Office on both, it would run better on windows. I would liket o see this comparison with software properly optimized for each OS, I somehow do not think the Mac would likely win. Also keep in mind that the hardware and drivers are also optimized for the mac... oh wait.. it is a mac :bleh: lets try this again with a pc of similar specs.

IMHO a waste of time for someone to even run a stupid comparison like that.

leopard is faster than any windows I have seen. works flawlessly. But almost 70% of hardware and games dont work on a mac:(

I love my Snow Leopard. It is absolutely brilliant. Boots up and shuts down faster on my system than my just installed 7 install.

Dunno about benchmarks but with Firefox, Adium, WinXP (VMware), Corel Draw (VMware), Photoshop CS4, Adobe Illustrator and Flash Cs4 all running together I have yet to see it falter. Cant say the same for Windows 7.

IMHO Snow Leopard is far better than Windows. I have yet to reinstall and OSX install because of performance issues and instability. Cant say the same for Windows 7.

But for games its only Windows 7.

dude. apple has to optimize os x only for a specific set of hardware and that make it look a bit faster. Given the speed of windows 7 and the wide wide wide range of hardware that it supports, I would say that win7 is exponentially superior to os x.

how about running your beloved MAC os on different set of hardware like the one Windows is running on & then test which is better.... oh wait, it can't even run on different hardware than the one Jobs decided for you...
That's a BIG FAIL right there!

run windows 7 on a equivalent config & use third party s/w to benchmark, not some p.o.s crapware.
& then tell us which is better & which is not.

or how about this, run mac on a PC & do benchmark. lmao:rolleyes:

the reason apple is not releasing mac for pc is that they know that it's stability shit will take a major hit if it is released for pc.

and they say that it's the best OS. lol. how can one consider an OS that is compatible only with hardware whose name starts with "i" as far better than OS that works with any hardware, hardware whose name starts with 'i' to hardware thats manufactured in a chinese apartment. :)

Gentlemen... gentlemen.. it's a moot point because these things will never happen, this is why they both have their niche and are good at what they do..... there is no doubt that these are both good products and have their own separate fan-clubs :P
