Hi. I'm planning to buy this DivX player from Indiaplaza.
Indiaplaza.in : Electronics - Audio and Video - Philips DVD Player-DVP3146x

Its the Philips dvp3146x for Rs. 3750/-. How much is its street price. I have to buy it online btw and cannot buy from shops because I have to use a gift voucher. Any other online divx player deal better than this divx player.

Will this be able to play all the xvid encoded movies properly that I download from various Bittorrent sites? Otherwise there'll be no point in buying this.

My basic use is to burn downloaded movies to DVDs and watch them on TV without converting them to dvd format.

If u want to settle with .avi files [xvid and divx fine].

Just think about H264 format ....

sooner or later H264 will replace all the releases as Most of us will be happy to

see a Blueray Rip movies..

Try getting tivx M-4100SH plays even mkv after firmware update. only gripe: 380$ . Tvixbox.com - unparalleled multimedia players!

the philips player 3146 is not a good dvd reader. and bear in mind it can even fail to read dvds after 5-6 months of use.

The one you quoted is not even an option. Is the main drawback of 3146 that it might not be able to play some discs after a few month's use or is there any major functionality also missing as compared to more expensive divx players from philips costing abt rs. 4500/- to 5000/-.

Is there a major difference in quality?

I'd urge you to purchase a better model than this skimpy player. Well it plays xvid fine but packed bitstream movies jerks while playing. note that I have the 3046 which should be similar to the 3146x .

I would suggest going for the DVP3166 instead. It cost me about Rs 3250 and not only does it have divx/xvid support, but can directly read movies from a pen drive, saving you the trouble of burning dvd's :)

^^ yeah dvp 3166 seems like a good choice, only drawback is it does not have hdmi or dvi out.. else it would have been amazing..!!

^^ Edit to above msg: am looking to buy a dvd player myself .. so was just researching and came across this model: DVP 5986K/98.. seems the best of the lot with hdmi... and probably should be priced @ 3.5-4k.. only issue is i dont know if and where its available.. but it seems to be the best of all philips models currently..

hey.. sorry for hijacking an bringin back an old thread.. but my ques is somewhat related..

well i just bought the philips 3166 dvd player today ( costed me 3k).. but the problem now is tat its not accepting my pen drive..i loaded .avi files on to it an its not reading it.. iv got a sandisk cruzer micro 1gb with u3 software crap on it.. could the reason be the u3 software??

nah.. doesnt recognise it at all.. when i insert the pen drive it shows device not supported.. an then nothin..though the light on the pen drive is continously on it doesnt show anythin on the screen.. jus the philips background.

man.. tas wat i went out 2 buy.. but not a single piece was available in all the stores i went to.. so i finally settled to buy this one.. :( but it sure is value for money @ 3k.. :) :)

dude, get the latest from philips.. 5986K with hdmi & usb support.
Got the same this month and no qualms till now :P

I am urgently looking for a DVD player which will let me play movies from my 4 GB USB drive, is Philips 5986K able to do this ?- and how much did U pay for this ? Urgent please i need to buy one immediately.

^^^ buddy finally managed to get my pendrive 2 work on my 3166 .. it was the u3 software which was the culprit an preventing it from working..

anyways vijay if u need hdmi out then in philips u have 2 option 5965 (which was relatively available in delhi @ about 4-5k) and 5986 (which wasnt available so cnt estimate the price) .. also if u dont need hdmi u can get the 3166 (which has usb support @ 3k .. i got this a week back an its working well)
