Im looking for a phone that does wifi and doesent need anything else to mainly talk over skype or msn or any such voice application , even if it does jus skype shouldb e good enough , main thing is it should work stand alone and shouldnt be too expensive.

im looking at the belkin skype phone which should be 5-6kish
also maybe 2nd hand e61s or e65s is a consideration .

suggestions welcome.

I doubt you'll find any other standalone (no-need-for-PC) Skype phone at a better price in India. If you have a WinMobile phone with WiFi, you can run Skype on it. There is also a Java version that supports certain other Wi-Fi phones.

was looking at the Gigabyte i120 for 5k NEW , seems like a no brainer , any other suggestions anyone ?

Also it comes by default with a 6. Windows mobile Rom , upgrade to 6.5 makes it very much finger friendly :)

Fring takes care of gtalk, msn messenger and even skype.

and fring runs on a variety of devices.

I personally use it on my N95 8GB (S60 V3) device over Wifi using Gtalk to talk to my GF in the US almost everyday.

Its smooth and feels like one is talking over a normal landline.

Your best bet is indeed what you have outlined. Try looking for phones that are supported by Fring and have Wifi.

guessed as much , mostly will get the e65 for 4kish which should be good :D

P.S. the link mentioned to skype phones are al usb and require a computer . kinda beats the purpose.

I suppose you must be aware that there are applications that will let you use Skype on GPRS as well. That means you have more flexible range for your skype calls if you use GPRS.

they don't natively work over GPRS , but there are ways to do that , this is blocked for a simple reason , to promote usage of the cellular provider network , besides its of course cheaper to use data network to make such calls, the cellular provider wouldn't then get much business and politics as such.
