Hi...a friend of mine has lost her phone, stolen actually...so I wanted to know if it was possible to somehow get it back with th help of IMEI no?
Any advice will be helpful..

Sorry, your friend is out of luck. The SIM card can be blacklisted by the operator at your friend's request (and even the IMEI on the operator's network) but it's entirely possible that the robber has popped in another operator's SIM card and even flashed the IMEI number if he's technically competent.

If this were to happen in the US, the police could have issued a felony charge and gotten details of the person registered on the new SIM but then the case of changing the IMEI would throw them off track.

What model was this btw? Hope your friend hadn't stored any personal info on it. If it was a BB, beam a remote wipe and lock over to it.

you can register a police complaint. two of my friends go their phones back. they registered a complaint in police station and they got it back in months time.

this makes sense, if the phone is new or has a decent value ~ 12-15k. one of my friend had lost his iphone and other and htc model costing about 15k. both got them back.

you'll need the IMEI number,s o that it can be tracked which mobile number/sim is currently being used and then track down the owner.

First, go to the nearest police station, lodge an FIR and give them the IMEI and phone number. Take a copy of that to the nearest Airtel/VF/Idea office (whatever network your friend uses) and ask them to check up if the SIM card associated with that number is still on the network. If it is, it should be a cakewalk to identify what area that cell phone is in. If the SIM info doesn't show up on their system, ask them if they can blacklist the IMEI and pass it along to other GSM carriers.

Other than that, there's a minuscule chance of ever getting it back. I lost a SE two years ago and never found it.

theres one problem..he phone was lost about 3-4weeks back and dont remember the exact date..does that matter?

Well in a way yes. The more delay you do the higher will be the chances of the SIM being changed. Honestly, if it's less than 10k then leave it and it's not worth the hassle. Trust me you will repent later of you registering the complaint to police station. And if you have like 15 SIM cards registered in your name (though you don use it)the police will be a pain in your a$$ then! :P

I guess its just waste of time then..

But do lodge the FIR about your phone stolen , give sim no , IMEI no.

Beacuse if some Mafia member kills or loots someone with this phone , you'll be questioned coz through IMEI no , your billing details of the phone you bought can be found out and then you'll land in a soup.

Just go register the FIR , keep a copy of the FIR with your lodged IMEI no and sim card no.

FIR & Sim block is must ACTION... bare some hassle initially to avoid BIG PROBLEMS latter any time. :(

3-4 weeks has passed and still Sim is not locked?? what man!!! Don't be so lazy :P, ask your friend to just call the operator and get the SIM blocked at-least.

Good to hear the SIM is blocked and FIR is lodged

Buying new phone this month or later ?

Whats your Budget ?

I never said that the FIR has been loged..

She is planning to buy a new phone this month itself...budget will be around 10k..C510 was a very good phone, but she might try something else this time...

I think lodging an FIR is mandatory if you've lost your sim card. Getting it back is not the point. Those are the rules. I think.

Bro this thing can help u out if IMEI no. has not been changed. File a RTI this thing will put fire under police people's ass & they will try their best to look for it & if IMEI has not been changed, u will get ur phone pretty soon.
