There are no standalone PHYSX cards anymore in the market, you have no choice but to get a new graphics card and a good one at that because these extra proprietary post-processing effects take a toll on the GPU's performance, anything below the current generation GTX660Ti will be underpowered for a 1080p resolution screen.

Depends on what your primary GPU is. If it is an nvidia GPU, you don't need a dedicated PhysX card. Most current gen. nvidia GPUs are capable of handling physx by themselves. OTOH, if your primary GPU is an AMD card, get a basic nvidia GPU such as the GT430 or even an older GPU no later than the 8 series (G92 i.e.) . That will take care of the physx calculations just fine.

There are barely a few good games out there that utilises the PhysX engine (note: not the usual physics by the in-game engine). Arkham City was the recent well known title. Borderlands 2 is next. You may be able to squeeze a bit more frames when you offload the PhysX computations to a secondary card but otherwise this will be a pointless additions since there aren't many developers who use the physx engine with the in-game engine for a title.
However, if you are looking to waste some hard earned money, you could always invest in another card.

How would you use that setup, I read that certain drivers need to be used so that the nVidia PHYSX drivers continue to work instead of shutting down on detection of an ATi / AMD graphics card.
You ideally should not need one, as the card you have currently is by nVidia and is a pretty powerful one at that.
