Samsung – 22” TFT Rs.8200

UPS APC ( 650VA ) Rs. 2750

Yup very resonable quote. But i would suggest you to change the mobo to Gigabyte EG31S2L-2.4k and stay away from CM PSU's. Go for the Zebronics Pro 350w~1.5k/Gigabyte Superb 460w~2.2k. Btw LGA 775 socket is EOL. It will be better if he goes the AMD way. It gives a upgradable path and also a far better IGP.
I would suggest
AMD PhenomII 545BE - 4.6k/AMD PhenomII 550BE - 5.1k/ AMD AthlonII X4620(Quad core) - 5.2k
MSI 785GM-E51 -4.6k(AM3, DDRIII)
2GB Transcend DDRIII 1333MHz - 2.6k
Zebronics Pro 350w~1.5k/FSP SagaII 350w~1.6k/Gigabyte Superb 460w~2.2k

Processor: Athlon II X4 620 - 5.3k
Motherboard: MSI 785GM-E51 -4.6k / Gigabyte 785GMT-UD2H - 5.9k (oboard HD ATI 4200 is a very good IGP. Plays HD with eaze and directX 10.1 complaint)
RAM: Transcend 2GB DDRIII 1333MHz - 2.6k
HDD: Seagate 500GB SATAII 7200.12 series- 2.3k
Cabinet: CM Elite 310 - 1.5k
SMPS: Zebronics Pro 350w-1.5k/ Gigabyte Superb 460W - 2.2k
Optical Drive: L.G. GH22NS30 SATA/Samsung SH-S22F SATA - 1.1k
Speakers: Altec Lansing BXR1121 - 1.1k
Monitor: BenQ 22" G2200HD 8k
Keyboard / Mouse combo - .7k
Total - 28.5k / 31.2k

LGA 775 socket is EOL. It will be better if you go the AMD way. It will give an upgradable path for your father-in-law and also a far better IGP that will suffice his needs of playing any game or watching movies

Youy won't find FSP Saga II in Kolkata.

Don't go Intel way , i know the buggers at Chandni Chowk ready to dupe anyone new and clear their old stocks out.

He should go there with a specific rig and see their expressions or else they'll rip his wallet apart.

Proccy: Athlon II X4 620 - 5.35k
Mobo:Gigabyte 785GMT-UD2H - 5.9k
RAM: Transcend 2gb dd3 1333mhz:2.5k
HDD: Seagate 500GB SATAII 7200.12 - 2.6k
Cabby: CM Elite 310 - 1.7k('anubis'^^exactly),absoulute recommendation
SMPS: Gigabyte Superb 460W - 2.4k
Optical Drive: L.G. GH22NS30 :1k
Monitor: dell 22
ALTOGETHER:26-29k

I like this config. How about going for a cheaper mobo and going in for an entry level discreet card. Good idea?

@vij : just a suggestion, i suggest you stick to the original intel motherboard, incase any problems arise in the future, RMA will be simpler, you wouldn't want your father-in-law to run around for RMA...also does that PC really need a discrete card ? buy a system based on the usage of your father-in-law.

Good idea if you are willing to take DDR2 instead of DDR3 solution.

Get Biostar TA790GXBE for 4k and Transcend DDR2 2GB kit for ~1.9k. Spend the rest 3k for 8600GT 512MB or ATI 4670 (4k) if budget permits.

+1 for the Athlon II based system. You will save money on the proc+mobo, which you can put somewhere else. Do consider it. Also, consider 4GB RAM if possible, as this may be more stressed than the graphics solution.

Wat say ? Don't go for DDR2 now ?

DDR3 is futureproof
