I have 3 hard disks.

On wd 320gb i installed win2k8 server. But it had some driver issues so wanted to format its boot partition and delete the same and recreate fresh ones.

I booted into win xp and did a format of its c drive. There before the primary c drive a black colored very tiny drive was present, i even deleted that also after that my wd 320gb isnt detecting in xp nor in win 7.

But it shows in device manager but when clicked on populated, it show zero partitions and its status says unreadable.

Its health was perfect as seen in hd sentinel. In data recovery tools, all partitions can be seen.

Partition magic and Paragon Partition Manager refuses to start by giving some I/O error.

But when i try to install new OS, the disk shows up a full blank 320gb and asks to create partitions.

My mind has gone nuts as all my dads very precious data was on that disk and also my all music collection.

Now how to fix that MBR and regain the partitions??

Which tool shall i use or any dos command? I'm very much tense.

#[member='nRiTeCh'], since it is a WD drive, i suggest you to check using WD official too.

for partition recovery, you can use Partition find and mount, it worked for me

I downloded it now what? Its just a small tool. What it does? Does it mounts any lost partitions? Or recovers data?

Can you post windows disk mgmt screen shot? I have a feeling that your disk is converted into dynamic disk somehow.

For recovery of data, use Recuva. Its very good, I have recovered my many "mistakes" using it.

No. plz read my question again n again.

The drive isnt accessible and nor its partition.s It just shows in device manager. thats it!!

#[member='nRiTeCh'], if you are referring to WD tool, then it it to clear your mbr, and re-partition your HDD

And if you are referring to Partition find and delete, then it is to find the lost (deleted) partition, next mount those partition, they will appear as virtual drive. next just copy the content from those drives

U can try Easeus partition master to recover partition.Just assign Drive letter(for e.g. C:,D:) to partitions.May be u just lost partition table not the whole partitions.

Guys will try Easeus partition master. But let me first finish with Partition find and delete referred to by #[member='CA50'].

But still pour in more tools which can recover lost/corrupted/damaged partitions....

Thx in adv.

I am assuming that you used another OS to boot into drive and format it, as you formatted the C drive the Master Boot Record is erased, you will not be able to access partition after that

My friend had the same problem, we tried all night swapping HDDs, putting them in different PCs, but none worked

In some programs partitions will appear will some may not appear

You also cannot create partition on it unless you format it completely, if you use it with another HDD to make a OS partition on your drive, it will not get detected if you put it standalone(i.e. it will boot only with the other drive)

I'd recommend TestDisk for recovering deleted partitions.

http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk

It's a console based application (No GUI), but its easy to understand. The app's functionality is limited to recovering MBR and partitions, and it's very good at this. However if the partition has been formatted, or, converted to a dynamic disk, TestDisk won't help.

So far Partition find and mount is working. But it doesnt have save search option, so suppose the lights go off or anything strange happens, i again need to deep search for the lost volumes which took me 1.3hrs.

#[member='nRiTeCh'], better backup all found data to another partition. later yon can go through those data and delete all the unwanted

+1 its mostly a case of partition table mess up.

Use testdisk and it should fix.

Data has been recovered using Partition find and mount.

Now the main question arises, should i create fresh partitions and start using the disk or do certain tests and then move further?
