Rest, guys shall i file an rma and get my drive replaced? Or it isnt needed? M confused on this

Does wd still offers door-door take n give service? Still how many days do i need to wait for a replacement after filing rma?

#[member='nRiTeCh'], welcome mate

i doubt WD will provide RMA of that HDD, as nothing is wrong with it. Corrupt partition table doesn't comes under RMA. You can act as i have suggested (clear mbr > recreate partition).

I too have faced the same problem before, and i did that : created new partitions.

WD rma is virtually door-to-door service, but in reality you will have to hand delivery the faulty HDD at your nearest courier (usually AFL), next depending on their stock, WD will send you a new one, or a repaired one.

#[member='CA50'] i thought of rma because soon after i lost the partitions, none of the tools like Partition magic and Paragon Partition Manager were working as they just kept giving errors: I/O ERROR on Hard drive has occurred and Init Failed: Sector not found.

Only Win 7 gave me the option to Initialize the disk and only then when i rebooted in xp, the disk was available for partition in Disk Management. And then even Partition magic and Paragon Partition Manager were working without any errors.

Still how to clear mbr as suggested by you? The disk itself is totally blank- unpartitioned.

I just ran Western Digital Data Lifeguard Diagnostic for Windows and the test indicated my drive is in good shape. SMART status is healthy too. Shall i Zero fill the drive to erase all the stuck up data in lost volumes?

***More to add.... previously i use to recover data via Stellar and get data back. Recovery use to be 100% but then after some months, some amount of that data esp. images/mp3s/exe/zips etc. goes corrupt. So whats the reliability with Find and Mount tool? Will same thing happen? M worried about the recovered data now.

#[member='nRiTeCh'], those apps gave error, as the mbr was corrupted.

generally the mbr of the HDD is scanned to get all the info about it, as it stores the basic HDD info.

Well as WD tool have shown the drive as healthy, then it is not necessary to RMA it.

Use the WD tool to clear mbr and re-create partition. Get the bootable version. Connect only the fault HDD, boot from the image, and clear its mbr, next create parition.

After that you can run an error scan using HD Tune

Ok thanks but burning a new full 700mb cd for such a small 2.1mb tools seems very shameful for me

Can the iso be extracted to pen drive and boot from it?

I did as said but there wasnt any clear mbr option but just a quick test, extended test and zero fill drive option. Also the Yumi thing wasnt so yummy as its name. I had to download a Free dos balder img file to actually make it work. Nor wasnt there any tut/help anywhere on google to help make proper bootable along with other iso but glad finally it worked.

#[member='nRiTeCh'], sorry mate, you had to face problem with my solution.

Actually i use UBCD (ultimate boot CD), which contains this WD tool by default, and it works perfectly with YUMI for me.

Anyways, i have attached a pic, which shows the mbr option (Update MBR boot code)

#[member='CA50'] no probs mate. With that i got something new to learn so no regrets.

You wont believe, using EASEUS Partition Master 9.1.1 Home Edition i was able to recover all lost partitions incl the data and vol. label intact as if nothing such happened. But it only allowed to retain/re-activate 5 partitions out of 7 due to some reasons quoted which i cant recall but anyways i already got data from those two in-activable drives using your previous tool.

I simply right clicked on the drive name and clicked Rebuild mbr and it gave me options of OS and i choose win 2k/xp. The applied the changes but still the volumes were invisible. I just right clicked on the drive again and followed the partition recovery wizard and within 25mins it displayed all my lost volumes. First it didnt let me choose more than 2-3 drives but then fiddling a bit i managed to select 5 of 7 and within seconds the volumes were restored as they were before and my computer popped up showing the new but same old volumes with all data intact.

The 2 red hi-lighted volumes i ignored to recover as i already recovered data from those. You can see the used and unused tabs showing that the data is Untouched by any evil means.

Just now powered my pc after 2 hectic nights and ran PowerQuest PartitionMagic 8.0 and hell, it threw out so many partition related errors..

Below snapshot shows all the errors incurred on Disk 1

And this shows Brown marked areas representing unusual ?II and ?gl on almost all drives.

mate i suggest you to connect only the faulty one. Connecting others as well might cause some problem to those drives too.

Also try a different sata cable and switch to a different sata port in your mobo

for the time being you can install an OS and use it for few days (just for observation). if problem persist, then you will have to RMA the HDD
