Hello friends...

Need suggestions...ASAP

Here are my requirements:

1. A Deskjet printer. (Laserjet is not an option as color LJ will be very costly and hence counter productive).

2. With a Scanner- preferably which can scan Transparencies (E6 photographs).

3. Color reproduction accuracy is very important for me. Its repoductions must be saturated.

4. I do not intend to buy new cartridges from the manufacturers as those tend to very costly. So the printer should have third party manufactured cartridges in the market.

5. I do not need FAX functionality, hence so called MFDs are not required.

5. Budget: lower is the better (but <= 5K)

Use:

General color printing on normal bond/ photocopy papers.

Help me out guys...with Brand, model and Price

Try the HP C3188 or any other model in the same price range. Should meet your requirements.

You can always get inkjet cartridges refilled, i am no expert on that subject..

I guess a canon or an epson printer-copier-scanner combo device would be good for you too, especially if you are particular about the color output.

Printer with a scanner is called a MFD(fax optional)! It prints, scans & copies!?

If your very particular about colour reproduction, get the HP Deskjet F4185 or some model from the Photosmart 'C' series.

Else get the Canon Pixma !!

Nope, I do not need the Fax 'cause I'm never gonna use it, so there is no sense of paying premium for it.

Regarding Pixma can some one suggest a model meeting my requirement and budget?
'Cause I have heard that there are number of independent manufacturers producing Canon cartridges which are far more cheaper than the original. I have a very bad experience regarding Refilling, so thats gonna be my last option, more over I've heard that HP cartridges are worst refilling compatibility...

actually,it's easier to use refilled cartridges on HPs' as opposed to the Canons'..
BUT I NEVER RECOMMEND RE-FILLING ! JUST USE THE PRINTER WISELY AND BUY A NEW CARTRIDGE WHEN TIME COMES.

As far as the pixma models are concerned,go to Canon's Indian site, choose the model that suits you the best & call up your local computer vendor to find out the current price.

Your bound to have 4~6 model choices in the MFD segment from both HP & Canon. It all comes down to your budget & requirements.

Thanks for your reply...

I can always do that ;)

But basically I was looking for real time experience from the user here, which I find invaluable while making a purchase decision. I have seen that a model of any PC related product may be found very attractive and even the dealer may also give a very positive feedback, but the user pointed out something which may make it really unsuitable...

Hope I have cleared my reasoning for asking for advices here :)

Well,I use the Canon Pixma MP180 at home and it's just great!
But now you'll only find the newer models : MP 145 & MP 228 etc..

Thanks I was looking at the models without Fax, but I think I have to go down to the market to check myself to get the actual scenario..

Ok, got myself a Canon PIXMA 180 (Thanks thetoxicmind)today....printed two color documents including images..and the result seems to satisfactory....

BTW, could you suggest a way of printing four pictures in one A4 sheet? Do I need to use Photoshop to put all the four in one page? Or is there any easy way out? (Sorry for being a little OT, but its my topic anyway... ;) )
