Hi,
I am looking to upgrade the internal HDD of my Apple Mac Mini2,1 2007 model.

Some of the HDD options that I found here 2.5" Serial-ATA (SATA) Notebook Drives 9.5mm and kits

I am not sure if they will be available in India and at what price.

Can you suggest an HDD and price. Also, where will I be able to find this HDD. i am assuming Nehru Place in New Delhi? SMC International shop?

I guess a 5400 RPM drive will work as well. :) I use my mac mini for watching media and p2p downloading 24x7. I do not do video editing, gaming, etc...

I was thinking if I am upgrading, why not upgrade to a faster drive.

Please consider suggestiing whichever HDD you think is best for me.

I am keeping an open mind. :)

THeITwares is selling a 500GB seagate for 3.2k and WD 500 GB for 3.3k , so i guess prices at SMC would be similar . The seagate would be the 5400.6 i believe . You could get the faster 7200.4 momentus but seeing your usage it wont really make much of a difference .

I am using a WD5000BEVT 500GB drive for my Samsung N128 netbook. The netbook runs 24x7. No issues by far. Solid drive. Consider this option as well. :)

Any idea if 5400 RPM will make noise as compared to 7200 RPM?

Can you explain what you mean by "won't make any difference"? :) I am assuming you are saying this because I do not use my mac mini for gaming and graphics/video editing? ( which is true!) :)

Noise levels will be almost same but 5400's should be slightly lower , also lower power consumption and heat . But again these differences are minimal . As long as no intensive application (gaming etc) is involved , 5400 RPM is more than sufficient .

Hey sorry for the late response!

It is a 5400 rpm drive and was priced at 3.2k when I purchased it last. i.e IIRC.

one more thing, any idea if my 2007 mac mini will support HDD greater than 500 GB? 640 GB maybe?
AFAIK it should. What should be holding it back anyway?
