I don't know if this the right section to post this but still i'm getting pretty quick responses, so i thought i'd go for it

okay straight to the point, I've a prob and i need your help,

I'm looking for a new p.s.u, I have a - 945 Gcnl Mobo, core 2duo 2.2ghz, 2 Gb ram, 1Tb and 500 Gb HDD (internal), and 512 8600 GS XFX and couple(4) of 80mm case fans.

Till now i was running on a stock (Zeb)p.s.u which i thought was around let's say 300w-350w, so i thought of getting 'Seasonic SS-400-ES 400 Watts PSU' which i thought would be more than enough for my pc, So i took my stock my p.s.u to clean and pack it, and it was shocking to see that it was '450w' on its side label, i freaked b'cos i got the cabinet and stock p.s.u for like 1.5k :-),

Now i dunno which one to buy?! Like should i go for higher one or stick with the Seasonic 400w which lesser than the stock one?! i don't wanna compromise on the quality of my new p.s.u just for saving a few hundred bucks. any suggestion will be really helpful.

The new should able to handle all this, I'm thinking of adding 'Cooler Master DI5-9HDSL-0L-GP Cooler' or a better one later, also a 1 Tb HDD (Total 2.5 Tb), and couple of new fans for my new cabinet.

Hi, mav2000, thanks for linking and i've already seen your post and it's good and has lot of useful information!

But i'm just looking for a thread that just says this the best P.S.U in this specified category, on your post there all multiple psu's on a single category,! Thats all!

I'm ain't creating a thread just to kill time!

Anything you post under here will help me make this thread better :-) and I need you genius peoples suggestion to help the noobs like me:-)

Look Sire, right there is where you are making mistake. There is no best SMPS in a specified category, a lot of variables come into play, like --
 1. Availability
 2. Affordability [OR your inclination to purchase a particular brand]
 3. After Sales Support / Servicing
 4. Pricing [the products actual street price irrespective of your budget]
 5. Your usage scenario.

Depending on these variables what you use might not be the 'best' for me and vice-versa. So honestly all we can do is merge your thread with #[member='mav2000'] Sire's [if he welcomes it] and we ratify and keep updating the thread with the latest models available in various parts of India along with appropriate base price and how the service network is.

Hope this gets the point across, Cheers!!

Thanks for the brief lecture man... I appreciate it.

^ corsair cx430 v2 for Rs.2.4k will do just fine or just incase if you are going to upgrade your rig later on may you should look into seasonic S12II 520w for Rs.3.5k it will be future proof comes with 5yrs warranty..

If you are going to upgrade this RIG in the coming years, then I will recommend that you go for the --

Seasonic S12II 520W ~3500/-

if not and you will be just working with ~2 -->3 hard-drives a basic graphic card [entry-level OR mid-range; with a power draw of not more than ~130W], 2 ~3 120mm fans and the usual paraphernalia, with no over-clocking. I would recommend that you go for the --

Cooler Master Real Power Pro 460W / GX 450W ~3500/- OR 3000/-

Corsair VX450W ~3500/-

[All the mentioned SMPS come with a 5 year warranty cover]

By the way, why are you buying that cooler from flipkart.com?

Hope this helps, Cheers!!

Thanks man. If i go for the cx430 v2, will it handle the upgrades(nothing major though) as i mentioned above, and on the downside there isn't much i can do with my pc :-).

And as far the 'Seasonic S12II-520 520 Watts PSU' there ain't much i know about it,

Is that really good b'cos this is my one time buy, been saving money for a really long time now, just to buy a new p.s.u and cabinet! ( I've already created a thread on this type before that died)

Look honestly in the sub ~4000/- quid category you cannot go wrong with the Seasonic S12II 520W it will serve you really well for plently of years to come and has got excellent reliability. If you want reviews for the same, go here and here.

JohnnyGuru really knows how to grind his SMPS to dust and I swear by his reviews.

Also can you link the thread you created for the cabinet?

If you are on a tight budget for the cabinet, you can take a look at the following --
 1. NZXT Gamma ~2400/-
 2. Cooler Master eLite 311 ~2000/-

Where are you buying all this from?

Hope this helps, Cheers!!

If you have really tight budget then get Corsair Cx430 will able to manage your rig actually am using that for my another pc.. But I suggest to go with seasonic if extra money to spare so you got no worries another 5yrs+ till it dies, as far as cabby go with alpha17 suggestion.

I think a GX450 OR above SMPS will be better in the light of future expansion of the RIG / up-gradation of the RIG. The Corsair CX V2 430W is a good SMPS, but it will curtail OP's options.

Dude went through every single page looks like i'm gonna go with it (buy it) :-) 87% efficiency and load tests seem impressive (not that i noticed everything but some things i can understand), and you saying it can go for 'plenty of years' that should do, for me.

As far cabinet goes i'm gonna for Gamma! :-) after seeing this 'http://www.techenclave.com/galleries/14-rig-of-the-android-boy/' it looks really good even though its weird shaped and there will be lot of airflow if my mobo gets in :-).

I hail from Bangalore, so the best and the first place is to check would be S.p Road. Online buy is optional!

# Alpha : I didn't see the edited post of yours ' Corsair VX450W ~3500/' or 'Seasonic S12II 520W ~3500/-'!? ;-(

The cooler!? There seemed to be good reviews so thought of going for it, it's just optional i was thinking of getting a some good quality thermal paste(artic sliver) and use it with stock smps!? Well, what do you recommend dude!?

If you are from Bangalore, let me tell you where all on S.P. Road you might find the Seasonic product in stock --
 • Golccha Inter-Trade
 • Aashirwaad Computers
 • Jainex Computers

Atleast 2 of these shops will have the aforementioned SMPS in stock and / OR can arrange it for you.

Next, after all this, let me tell you there is no guarantee that the SMPS will work for years and years, just that it is a good model and will last you for a decent time-span serving in multiple RIGs. Apart from this the SMPS carries a 5 years warranty in-case something packs up, so you are covered.

Only Golccha stocks the NZXT cabinets, you should be able to get the Gamma ~2800/- [because of shipping involved]. Any other shop will charge you as much as ~3500/-, which is atrocious.

Hope this helps, Cheers!! And happy RIG building.

Thanks for that dude, are you from Bangalore!? Besides that, I ain't gonna do much that would bust a 80+ bronze certified p.s.u, i do have a ups and regularly (2 Weeks) clean my comp and don't worry i ain't gonna sue you for telling me it'd would 'go for years'. :-) cheers

Nzxt gamma from Golccha thats all! Although he's very rude, don't know what happened to him in his childhood!?

And you did ask me about the cooler 'By the way, why are you buying that cooler from flipkart.com?' any prob with it or..?

It is better to avoid cooler master gx series even though gx450w is different..you can go ahead with seasonic over corsair got more amp at 12v rail..may i know why are changing the stock hsf since you are not oc, if you really want it you can go for cooler master tx3 for Rs.1.2k instead..

Ya Ganesh, I've seen not many positive reviews for that series, i'm going ahead with seasonic :-) i do a lot of encoding with x264, you know how much it will juice out your cpu my cpu temp climbs upto 62'c to 61'c on a 98% load and keeps varying! If i use multi threads it'll say in 100% load! :-( and i noticed my stock hsf fan is getting slower, I mean slower, can literally stop it with my small finger! lol

Then get a cooler master tx3 for 1.2k..I dont know much about the cooler that you have mentioned but i think it wont do any good than the stock hsf that you currently have..

Ya def looks good with that high raised aluminum fins on copper tubes and i bet it'll be worth every penny. and will fit into a gamma perfectly.

But maybe a month later, as of now i'll buy ' Seasonic S12II 520W' and a 'Gamma'.
<
and stick to the stock hsf with a good thermal paste.!
