Storage Solutions Please suggest external DVD-ROM drive!

Hi,

I need a external DVD-ROM drive which can be connected to PC through USB port. It should be powered through mains (not through USB). I need it to be as silent as possible.
I have no idea of these, so I need your suggestions. What to get and from where? I am in Delhi.

Do I really need to buy an enclosure? What if I just buy an USB-IDE adapter cable and keep the DVD-ROM out in open? Is it safe?
 
I also checked the pricing of 5.25" external encasing on ebay. None of them seem to be less than Rs 700-800. Check this out -

Guys, after a lot of introspection, I finally abandoned the idea of buying 5.25" casing and instead ordered a USB/IDE/SATA adapter kit instead.
 
How are you powering the drive if you didn't buy a 5.25" box? You've specifically mentioned that you wanted to power it through the mains socket.

Btw, enclosures are available for less than 500. Head over to the local electronics/computer mart in your city. eBay isn't the best place for these kind of things.
 
Adapter Kit has the provision for power through mains socket, so it should work.

I would have liked to pick 5.25" enclosure from a shop but unfortunately I am living in a remote area these days where there is no good computer parts shop in vicinity. Therefore I have to rely on online purchases.
