Hello,

Well the Samsung site is too confusing and Western Digital is too diverse. Which models would you suggest for a new 500GB SATA HDD?

Based on forum discussions which I have one through, it has to be from SAMSUNG or WESTERN DIGITAL.

The HDD would be used as primary booting device, has to be reliable and give good performance in that order. I usually upgrade after 5-6 years.

I do not need RAID and I would stay away from Eco friendly drives as the constant power up/down causes wear and tear.

Please suggest more than 1 model as per your order of choice.

Thanks,
S

^Its so-so, you will have to register your HDD at their to acquire a RMA number, next courier guys will pick up the bad hdd and they will send you a replaced one.

Dont go for wd green but look for blue or the black ones, though black are hard to find these days and green are available like anything. :)

^thats right blue drives are not bad, it is a general purpose one and can easily meet the need of a regular hdd for OS and games

i out of blue purtchased one seaget 500 gb 7200.12 hdd 2 months ago.

i was hard core wd fan before,

here are my observation.

it is single platter ddrive which is running cooler than wd green drive(wd10ears)

it temp is 33-34 and wd is running at 38-39 .

and it is obv. faster for data transfers over e sata,

where do i upload screens shots to post on forum?

overall i am happy with seaget.

might replace wd's with seaget.

i am now off from this green drives business.

they are slow and wd makes wheering noise every now and then.

and besides, it works out costly to buy 500GB, get a 1TB. seagate would be my recommendation. i've had some real bad experiences with WD. and their rma and warranty cover isnt good enough. 2800 on smcinternational.in for 1TB, dual platter, 7200.12, 32MB cache one, i think.

@pratik: Seagate, not seaget.
