CPU/Mobo Pls. give your insights on my m/b cpu selection

Hi,

Am trying to assemble a budget system with AMD m/b. and cpu.

What came to my mind is Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H motherboard which is reported to have Northbridge heating issues.

So, am considering AMD AM2 5000+ Black edition CPU. Will selecting this CPU reduce chance of heating issue ? Am not an overclocker, but may consider it as a future /rare option.

I heard about CPUs from AMD like:
AMD AM2 4050e: 2100 MHz (G2)
4450e: 2300 MHz (G2) and
4850e: 2500 MHz (G2)
which are energy efficient and they interested me highly - they runs at 45W. Are these CPUs available in Mumbai ?

What will be best place to buy these products and can someone give me price ideas on these m/b + cpu combination...

4850e seems not to be avl as of now....

as for GA-MA78GM-S2H, the NB indeed heats up..bit the Rev. 1.1 seems to have a better cooling.....plus if you are using a decent cabinet with good ventilation, it wont pose that much of a problem...I have OCed the IGP to 650 Mhz, the 'indicative' NB temp seem to be around 85 C[true temp is around 20C less], and my rig is up almost 24/7.

Can heating issue be under control if AMD AM2 5000+ Black edition CPU is used ?

Is this same problem occurring in MSI /ASUS version of 780G chipsets ? Is there any feature difference between Gigabyte and other manufacturers 780G chipset m/bs ?

Actually the diffrence between AMDs 45W parts and their "regular" parts in terms of power consumption and heat consumption isn't earth shattering. Go for the 65W parts if they are easy to get. Keep in mind that you'll have to purchase a cooler if you plan to go with the 5000+BE.
As for contolling the NB temperature with your CPU, I don't think that's possible. The NB temps depend on the HT speed voltage you feed it among other things and not the processor (although overclocking may bring a few additional variables).
So go for any 780G mobo and pair it w/ a 5000+ or higher or even a Phenom X3 :).

As for the heating issues, I don't think that should really be a concern as long as it works properly.

My budget for m/b + cpu is between 8K to 9K max.

Was selecting AMD because of future upgradation possibility ONLY - with phenom cpus.

Can't select Intel since m/b. + cpu cost is much higher if one consider upgradation possibility.

I surely will use a normal heatsink fan together with AMD AM2 5000+ Black edition or any amd cpu.

Was thinking of lower range cpus in case Black edition wont help much - then I prefer normal AMD AM2 4800+. Phenom is out off my budget for now, will upgrade when the thing become cheaper.

Whats the price of Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H v1.1 in Mumbai ? Where its available best ?

theitwares.com lists it @5450/- much higher than ASUS /MSI's listed @49xx/-. Then ASUS /MSI will be better ? If features are same with Gigabyte and others won't it be better to buy ASUS ?

I'd say go for this : GA-M78SM-S2H

it's based on the nvidia 8200 chipset, which as IGPs go isn't as powerful as the one on the board you've chosen, but it's got hybrid power, which lets you power off the add-in video card should you choose to add one later.

Or better yet, if you're buying a graphics card along with the cpu/motherboard then see if you can afford this

GA-M750SLI-DS4

It's got hybrid power as well.

Also, with regard to Phenom CPUs the fastest ones are known to have issues with motherboards that don't have the circuitry to supply them enough power. The second board I've listed supports processors that consume upto 140w...so for a future perspective, it's a safer bet.

In addition it makes sense to get the lowest priced cpu you can find and overclock it if you find it slow. All AMD Athlon X2 processors should have the same characteristics now, and the speed limits on them are only there to create different price targets.

If you don't plan to add an add-on graphics card, or will only buy an ATi one in the future, then don't go for the nvidia chipset boards I've mentioned. Otherwise, they seem like a sound choice to me.

The Gigabyte has a few ups compared to the Asus like all solid caps and a much better onboard audio codec. I think the extra Rs. 500 is justified. Since your budget is 9k, get the 4800+ with the GB board and upgrade later.
Also, as I said, with the 5000+BE you will have to buy a cooler cos it doesn't come with one. The combined price will be close to the price of a Phenom X3.

Only consider the black edition if u prefer to OC (also remember u that no HSF is provided).So u have to buy one ,Why all those fuss when u can get a good intel make for that budget. Here are my

Mobo ABIT IP35-E 5000
PRO e2140=2500
Good aftermarket cooler=2500(so that u can OC not required if u dont:bleh: )
u can easily push that 1.6ghz to 2.2ghz with stock cooler whcih completely beats AMD .So better get the components mentioned.

Or if u wont OC one more
mobo palit n73v=2300
pro e7200=5800

Am finalized on CPU - AMD AM2 64 4800+

M/B is the only doubt now because of cost factor which is important since am on tight budget:

Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H @5450

Asus M3A78-EH @4950

is the price diff. on GB justifiable just for solid cap ? audio I agree.
 
I bought a GA-MA78GM-S2H for a friend a few days ago, i myself was confused between this one and asus m3a78-eh . From what i read, the gigabyte one is much overclock friendly compared to asus's crappy bios ( in terms of OC settings ). I think the price difference is justified :)

I decided up on Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H + AMD AM2 64 4800+

So, next week I will be in Lamington Rd. to get better price and vendor :)

That would be the best choice for your price point. Infact I bought the exact same combo in April. Then the Ga-Ma78gm-s2h was retailing at 5200 in b'lore I'm sure it has come down to ~4500 range by now.
 
2 weeks ago i picked up athlon 5000+ along with ga-ma78gm-s2h for 9.1 k all inclusive from mahavir ( lamington ) . Board was around 4.9 i guess .

This BIOSTAR TForce TF8200 thing is really interesting. But is it available here in Mumbai ?

Price looks low for a m/b. with Silent piped heatsink. Cool.
