The Champ can only install JAR files that are less than 500 kB in size. In case the app you are trying to install is larger than 500 kB, it won't get installed.

To change this filesize limit, dial *#52828378# you will go to Java Test Menu, then go to OTA Test, change 500 kB to xxxx kB (where xxxx is the size of app that you want to install; keep this 2000 for instance) then save.

Now you'll be able to install JAR files larger than 500 kB and upto 2 MB.

i own Samsung champ, hence i suggested the same. i have never tried copying the app in mem card and installing, but downloading & installing works fine for me. i've installed gmail app, google maps, icici bank app, mobile gmaps, opera mini, citibank app and so on. all work good :P

^^ So you install apps via GPRS ? I dont know I have tried all that I can do ( apart from GPRS method ) but I am unable to install any apps.

yes thats correct. all the apps were downloaded via gprs. google maps and icici bank app being biggest of all in size of 572kb and 612kb respectively.

btw i had also increased the file size limit of java apps. follow the steps that Nehaladsul suggested to increase the size.

wow @ google maps work on java phones. i never knew about it. I had always assumed google maps work on smartphones only and hence have been lugging around a blackberry for some time now just for google maps. i dont particularly like the berry, and the berry's an overkill for my nominal requirements as such - just need voice+sms+light browsing like gmail, cricinfo+googlemaps.

@Malique: how does google map work on your champ? memory issues? just shows the maps or your position (network lock) too?

I am planning to buy Nokia C1-02. Can any one suggest me will it support JAVA applications specifically " MSDict Concise Oxford Hachette French Dictionary.jar " and other apps. Plz help !!

For java thing, get any nokia s40 devices. As per your needs, even a used old model will do.
BTW i still have nokia 6100 model bought in yr 2002, still using as a standby cell. It still works rocksolid like a genie & using same battery which again fetches me a good 6 days of usage or 25 days of standby.:bleh: Still play some games on it.
