If looking for 3.5inch then get

Been using it from past one year no issues faced till date.

If you want 2.5inch then get

Seagate Freeagent Go for 8.9k ebay link

Both hdd has 5 years warranty.

You are terribly mistaken if you blindly went by whatever has been mentioned in those ebay links. None of the manufacturer - Seagate nor WD provides a 5 year warranty for external drives. It is a 3 year warranty.

Re: Potable hard disk

basically if you want a cheap option then you have to with 3.5 ones which have an external power supply without which you cannot use the drive. the usb part is used for transfer.

then there are 2.5 ones which use the usb interface for power as well as transfer.

3.5 are fast but less portable and cheap

2.5 are little slow but portable and expensive

No not at all.

But before suggesting anything i believe it is better to understand the requirement properly (after effect of being in Software industry:P)

Here, he has not mentioned if he wants truely portable drive, usage , any preference etc...
BTW 3.5 inch is not considered portable it is better to say it as desktop drive rather than portable.

As I mentioned earlier I want Portable one.. And about usage, I have to just keep movies and other files, as i dont have enough space in my laptop. Also it would also help me in mass data transfer at a time.

I can't see the image but if your drive shows it has a 5 year warranty then that is because it was purchased last year. Drives sold this year starting April, have a 3 year warranty.

You never mentioned this in your previous post buddy.

You get a Transcend 640Gb 2.5" External Drive for 4400. I think thats the Most VFM deal.

Meadiahome has it. I am thinking of buying the same.

For 3.5" drive Portability is a issue and it occupies space too.

The power adapters that come with the 3.5" ext. drives, do they fail too much???

I have heard that the adapters that come with the Transcend Storejet casings fail a lot.

Have not heard any such thing about the Seagate and WD drives. So does that mean that they dont fail that much?
I am leaning towards buying 2.5" ext drive only because of the adapter failure problem. Heard that it is impossible to get a new adapter separately.

adaptor failure wont be much of a problem for u. u can always get a similar one from the market but adaptor failure is not so common unless u break it or something by dropping it around.

Like others have mentioned before u, 2.5" are small and portable and need only one USB port for connecting to the computer. But they are almost double as costly as 3.5" ones.

3.5" ones are half as pricey or u could say they give almost double the space as 2.5" ones for the same price. But they are bigger in size(not huge) and need additional power supply through power supply too.

it is upto u to decide if u want more 'space' for the money u are spending or u want more portability.

p.s. : i use a laptop and I own both a 2.5" and a 3.5" one and I dont think 3.5 inch are nuisance. U wont surely find the 5.5" ones favourable ONLY if you want to carry ur portable disk around a lot. If that is the case then go for 2.5 inch ones.
