I have a protable HDD and have quite a bit of music on it about 8000files and the thing is that WMP does index everything but whenever I remove the HDD it loses all the file locations and I have to re-index all the files again in WMP is their any software which keeps the locations stored so that after re-connection I can play the files in one go.

And yest the drive letter remains the same as it always is.
Also tried auto indexing in WMP it did not work

Thiniking about itunes but waiting for you'll to suggest.
 
try itunes mate. that will index all your music nicely, and will retain all the settings even if you disconnect the HDD.
