As some of you might know i got my hands on the orange box yesterday. I was in the office so was dying to play the game. Went back home at around 10:00 in the evening and decided to skip my 10:00 - 11:00 Badmintion schedule for the orange box...

First game i tried on the PC was EP2 and got bored of the game as the music was too irritating... Also didn't wanted to just go through the game so i decided to skip the EP2 and try Portal... After initial 10 minutes i totally forgot how tired i was after a long session in the office... Kept playing the game till 2:00 and the only reason i left playing the game was the blackout... The game is amazing... Its like POP meets HL1 meets Prey...

Its got quite a few neat puzzles and completing a level gives you that sense of satisfaction which i remember getting when i used to solve that trigonometry equation from R.S.Aggarwal...

The game has got an excellent voice over for a computer which i believe is the best computer voice i have ever heard... The game is funny and irritating at the same time...

The ending of the game is also very satisfying... But i just wanted the game to last a little longer then what it had, a 3 hour gameplay...

Portal alone makes the orange box a worth but if you forget about other two games(TF2 and EP2)... I am just looking forward what modders will bring to the table with portal cause the possibilties are endless...

In the end i would just like to say that it takes the "cake" ;)

its a fantastic game really. the length seems short because we enjoy it too much but if you step back and look at the bigger picture, the length is about right. you can only play so much of it before you start asking why. (of course if it's as funny as it is all the way through, you won't be asking for a long long time). it would have been nice if they had a few more levels (maybe 4-5) with the complexity of the level 18/19.

the most impressive part of the gameplay (for me) was playing with the momentum. setup 2 portals, as you go out of the 2nd one, fire a new portal that sends you flying through the air is a mini rush :D

the humor was top of the line. one level only and the companion cube is already a star among gamers across the globe.

you might like this portal wallpaper (not by me - the wallpaper has a url on it for more variations) -

the end credits are hilarious. that song got stuck in my head for a couple of days after i finished it and i still listen to it from time to time.

top of the line experience, well worth the wait, and as you said, it probably makes the orange box worth it.

the cake is lie

the end credit song is in the gcf files , you can use gcfscape to extract it . :) 256 kbps bitrate .

the game is amazing , though to get the real treat , you have to play Portal before you play Episode 2 then you get a treat at the end , wrt the story line :D

about mods , its already out . You can play Half Life 2 using the portal Gun now :D , i think that was already posted on the forums .

Imho , every game on the Orange Box is killer . Team fortress 2 is killer , so is portal , half life 2 ep 2 , half life 2 and half life ep 1 .

its this super or what!!!

Really its one awesome game ..... finished it yesterday night ...... it took 3-4 hours but really this is one interesting concept and as switch said with endless possibilities ..... end credits was really hilarious ......

only if it was little longer .....

Dont spil the game for the people who haven't played it :P

just finished the game ..awesome game ..a bit short though arnd 4 hrs it took me to complete ... but awesome experience and crazy sense of humor ..

Companion Cube

Yup, this game is really innovative and intelligent. Everything is just right, the dialogues, the voice over, the gameplay. I am simply amazed. Valve is pushing the envelope here.

Just think of what they can do with this in the context of the half life series or other games. Nothing I have played in the last 10 years compares to this.

It's not just the idea which in itself is brilliant, its the execution and how everything comes across as so clever and witty. And best of all nobody is taking themselves too seriously. If you wanna have fun go grab this, this alone makes the Rs 999 for Orange box worth it.

yes the game might be good. i have just played it for 5min uptil now.

but all i can say now is that the year is still not over :)

I have always strongly suspected Valve having nabbed the NOLF team to work on Orange Box.
One look at TF2 and you can tell right away, the art direction, the music, the voice acting, everything screams NOLF.

What nobody realizes is that Portal is just a single character game(If you ignore the computer voice) and yet it has all the thrills of an FPS and along with that the IQ level(Hopefully i am using is in the right context :P) is tested not to forget the reaction time during some tricks...

So all in all a very fresh concept which actually worked like a charm...

P.S. Do try the bonus maps after finishing the game... Much more challenging...
