Then why not allow the new user to directly creating a market thread instead of all the minimum posts and reps drama?
Why?

Answer - to stop TE from becoming a mere market place..
If thats the objective, then the problem i posted is much much more rampant than members running quickly through the minimum number of posts, the rules regarding the same are abused much more frequently, and end up doin more damage..

Eh!!!

I dont think you and him are on same page, He said what is wrong in contacting seller through PM( he was a buyer )?

And even in case of dealers, people have to communicate through PM to complete a deal. There is no substitution for that. Even now we do not allow dealers to link to their sites or post the phone nos. Those who tried were warned and the details were deleted.

About people trying to sell items through PMs, we made the stand pretty clear a while back only. If you take that risk and buy an item from someone ( specially unknown / new members ), you have absolutely nothing on your side if deal goes bad.

About the people just coming here for the market, that is annoying at times, I agree to be honest.

We can easily increase the waiting period to say 1 month and min post to 100 before someone can create a thread in market. It will be much harder for people to spam away quickly to 100 posts and that too for over a month. I know many people wont like this but IMHO its about time we do this. ( I know there wont be too many backers for this )

i think newbies should not be allowed to view or post in the market at all. we DO NOT want People to come to TE for the market. it was intended to be something to facilitate us to sell our extra stuff, maybe a few GO's

another type of newbie behaviour is the type that exists solely within the market section. some of them hang out in the market section , post some thread craps , comment on some others , and the required amount of time later, they are 35 posts old. even worse, newbies who have just joined trawl WTB ads and get away with sales without pics or fulfilling any of the required criteria (thread count, duration etc )
 
^^ agree agree and cannot agree more :)

One just needs to take a look at the reviews/guides sections and see the number of posts saying 'kewl review' to realize just how many ppl are getting around the current post count limit.

A limit like 35 is somehow pretty easy to bypass without getting noticed. Something in the range of 100-150 along with a minimum criteria of an atleast 2 month old membership would make more sense i guess.

Or else, the market is gonna go the same way the P2P threads are going..

You cant change basic instinct of a person whatsoever modifications/strictness you propose. I have been member of this forum more than a year and one day in Sept-08, I thought to sell one of my used item and tried to complete 35 posts which were intervened and deleted by CrazyEddy as spammer. Anyway, later on I completed 35 posts just to enter in market section and sold 3 used item so far. Better to ask these 3 buyers about me (feedback is ok) and would come to know the truth. I have even shipped item without any payment subject to satisfaction of buyer before payment with no compulsion to buy it and people are happy. All are welcome to buy used products from me without pre-payment whenever its in market section.

Certain minimum restrictions are always required which are already in place.

Yes!! TE is becoming more of a circus all thanks to newbies. They just post in irrelevant sections and expect a decent reply. TE and its core members and mods are working pretty hard to keep this place tidy- and then we see idiots coming and messing this place up. Since TE is picking up the hike, certain rules needs to be adapted accordingly.

I was in no way referring to the integrity of any buyer or seller in my posts.

All i intended to point out was that ppl spam their way to the required post count. thats it.

I have expressed my personal views certainly without refering to anybody. You are very helpful person of forum and noway it is related to you/anybody :D
 
i think there is a wait in period too in addition to the post requirement....but i think 2 months is too severe....all i can say is check ratings before dealing....

I landed up on TE coz of price list. Joined a Lan Party within a month. Hosted a LP few months later. Know a whole lot of people from TE now.

Market feature is pretty similar. So even if market brings in 100 ppl. 10 will stay, take part in normal discussions. Not everyone is interested in overclocking and most of the folks dont upgrade their machines everyday.

TE must stay open for all kind of users. Good ones will eventually stay. We have vigilant mods to take out the bad ones.
 
IIRC posts in general section do not count towards one's post count.

can't the same be applied to the market section?

This might hel;p; curb the practice of spam-for-postcount

hehe could not resiste the similarity between oil-for-food.

Couldn't agree with you more. Spam posters are anyways recognized and taken care of and the ones who are really interested in the forum ( even though may have joined to sell their stuff ).

Minimum post count of 35 + minimum 7 days is quite good IMO.

I'd recently reported a couple of them. Spamming by simply bumping the threads. :|

We have a requirement for editing posts, why not for posting in the market?

there have been quiet a few instances of late where ppl have been spamming away to increase their post counts.

Consider for example - hiviky2212

almost ALL his posts can be categorized as spam. he has reached 35 posts and what is the next thing you see?

well well here my name comes......well ya i intended 2 sell my pod here gud.....but dats d issue..i never spam here n ya if 1 or 2 post was dere which will look like a spam that was my friend 1ly who did n he is in dis forum from an year now ....np hard feelings boss ...but just for 2-3 posts u don start blamin n hv always closed my threads in market..go n see many of ur old pals threads r open from long time..........dude i m here in dis forum coz i respect the idea if u find anythin fishy tell me if i m wrong i will say sorry n rectify it ...dis is not done just like dat blaming....anyways we r all here bro if my old dones were mistake m sorry .....hopin for a healthy n exciting time here

I'd say everything is fine as-is, if you find any suspicious posts, just report and the mods will take it up :)
