another simple question. Are dealers allowed to advertise their product outside dealer's paradise ? , especially when the same is not specifically solicited ?

to illustrate

suppose one day in audio zone

case 1

me: Hey, any idea how much dealer xxx charges for a pair of EP 630's ?

Dealer XXX: that would be $$$ shipped

Case 2:

me: I'm thinking of buying a pair of ep 630's . any idea how much they cost ?

Dealer XXX: hey I've got the EP 630's for $$$ shipped

Case 3:

me: I'm wondering if i need earbuds. Its kinda boring when i have to ride a bike for almost an hour. what do you guys suggest i buy?

Dealer XXX: hey I've got the EP 630's for $$$ shipped. why not buy one and find out ?

case 1 is fine by me. 2 is a grey area - would have been fine if the thread had been posted as WTB in the market section. 3 is almost offtopic and ought to be considered spamming

what do the mods think?

PS: and then there is a case 4 which we can do nothing about them. dealer fanbois and proxies, and there is nothing you can do to distinguish between the two if they are really different people.- there are a lot of them on team bhp. A typical case might go like this

Case 4:

me: I'm wondering if i need earbuds. Its kinda boring when i have to ride a bike for almost an hour. what do you guys suggest i buy?

Dealer XXX's proxy/fanboi: Why not get the EP 630's ?they're really good! dealer XXX has them in stock.

Dealer XXX : yes they are in stock. $$$ shipped

A question to mods and other members

Should we not question/higlight/criticize an absurd market deal

If not, why

TE market has high market standards and some greedy souls should not put it to test

If they are here to dump their crap @ obscene prices and fly away, why entertain and keep quiet

why members who notice that thread make buyers aware of its absurd pricing (in a genuine sense)

I wouldn't want a fellow community member to get cheated by a bad deal. Is that wrong

one such deal:

http://www.techenclave.com/market/3-x-2gb-ddr-2-ram-126711.html

after my post, this newbie started abusing me on PMs :bleh:

tho i gave it back(thats another story :bleh: )

Moving greenhorns point further, why were the dealers initially not allowed to advertise in the "thread that must not be named" ?

If its for the benefit of the members and legal, then there should be no issues right? Cause people were finding it hard to get good deals, and such a thing helped the community profit from a legitimate offer..

TBH Case 4 is what happens almost always.

Also there are instances where people say - where can I buy xyz, and a dealer responds. To me that seems fine. We don't want dealers advertising/pushing/promoting goods outside Dealer zone, but I dont see why they should not respond to member enquiries.

I see the thread, I see your post.. so whats the issue again?

If a member responds hatefully via PM, just ignore it or bring it to a mod's notice.

The eBay thread? I don't think anyone stopped the dealers from advertising their deals, except that I hear its against eBay policy to link to your own threads. One of the dealers themselves had reported and asked for his deals to be removed due to the same reason.

The whole thread was a legal grey area; and we had deleted/warned people promoting the creation of multiple a/c's. Needless to say quite a few a/c's have indeed been banned.

Reputation should not be the deciding factor.. Though increasing the post counts and time limit is certainly ++ ..

But would that grantee that we won't face ridiculous thread that we face at times ?

well leave every thing as it is...mods are doing hell of a job...we dont need new restrictions...also as far as i remember its a public forum so let newbies post they would learn after being burned :)
