My samsun CD-RW SW-240B shows up a "Power caliberation error" when i try to write any CD. the Drive runs fine as a ROM.....though the cd-door is a bit stiff @ times. is it a small enough problem to get it repaired, or do i need a new DVD-RW ?

This error comes generally in Nero because IMAPI service is not running.

To start IMAPI service ,

Goto control panel
Administrative tools
click on services

--------OR-------

Run > services.msc
browse your way down to IMAPI CD BURNING COM SERVICE
right click (on IMAPI) then select properties
in the middle of the window it will say start up type.click on the arrow to the right and select disabled.
Click APPLY

Neo, if blaster's post does not solve your problem then -

  • Try different media, can be bad media/brand or
  • Clean your lense/drive or
  • Update your firmware or
  • Try in a different system or different psu or
  • Under warranty, get it repaired

trid what blaster said,
tried changing media....
got latest firmware....
tried with a new PSU.....
got no warranty on a 3 yr old CD-RW :(

still......gotta get a good lens cleaner....... which's the best??

I think philips is available, any cleaner is fine even the chinese one's, also check for dust in the drive slot, clean the cdrw.

which brand of media are you using, try good branded ones like sony, moser, tdk, philips etc. if nothing helps then it's either time to move on or get it repaired.

samsung drives have this habit of dying suddenly

this denotes bad media or dying drive.

my samsung cd writer like this only i switched to liteon combo then. but ony after a handfull of costers
