Now what if I un-install this pre-loaded OS, do I lose any warranty. The laptop is Dell Studio 15 and OS is Vista Home Basic 32-bit. ;)

u wont lose warranty. and u can re-install windows any time with the OEM version of the windows which u got alongwith ur laptop.

i have done that many times. i had purchased the inspiron 1525 last year1

OK, thanx for clearing that doubt but now 2 more things. First what about the Recovery partition that Dell created? Should I delete it? Second, as it has a dedicated ATi GPU,ATI 4570 512MB, will the normal drivers like the ones I use for my HD4850, will work on it or will I have to use some specialized Mobility drivers? :S

1. The recovery partition is for getting your laptop back to its original state with the basic OS + Dell software. You can create a recovery disk that does exactly the same thing. After that, get a hold of a bootable partition manager like GParted (~90MB live CD) and delete/merge the Dell partition.
2. Download the regular driver for the equivalent desktop graphics card and use Mobility Modder before installing them to your laptop.

well can u explain the Mobility modification process in detail or give the link for it? The other thing is that whilst ordering, I didn't go for "Integrated CREATIVE Sound Blaster(R) X-Fi MB Audio Software Solution", now I just wanna know that as it is a software, can I get off the Internet from someplace else? :cool2:

^ es u can get the cracked version of creative audigy software.

even i had done the same

i dont remember exactly from where i got it.

just google it yaar!!

Ubuntu should work just fine... wait a week for the 9.04 release and install and try it yourself to be sure :)

I've ordered the Jaunty CD and will try it for sure but as have to work and deliver a project on Linux so will try Intrepid Ibex for now. :cool2:

As for GPU drivers, I'll have to mod them using Mobility Modder but which drivers to be downloaded exactly, I mean 4600 series or 4550 series or 4350 series? Please reply for this question quickly.
