Just check the battery life and the screen before buying..

Screen shouldn't have any dead pixels...

Price depends on the condition of the phone...

A decent 12-15 months old iphone 3GS 32Gb would cost you around 20-22K

Agree with Khurana sahib, price for a decent condition 3GS 32GB should be around 20-22k. Bargain a lot if the seller is not coming down to that price.

Check for screen condition, dead pixels, visible scratches on the screen, and on the bezel. Then check all the hardware buttons and whether they function as they should. Next turn it over and check the condition of the back, for scratches, dents, dings, and cracks. Most common places for cracks are on either side of the dock connector. Also check for any scratches or cracks on the camera sensor.

Most important! - Check before hand with the seller whether the phone is factory unlocked or soft unlocked. There is a huge difference between the two things and you should be aware of what you are getting into before you hand over your money.

All the best!

EDIT: Dead pixels will appear as blank dots on the otherwise illuminated screen. You'll have to look a bit closely to make out one. But once you see it, you cannot unsee it. :P Thats why its important.

1 dead pixels if any.

2 battery life

thats it.if the above 2 are good this is gnna be one of your best purchases.

Considering You are meeting a guy who is planning to sell iPhone, you meet & check at the max of 30 mints.

Guys, BTW, how do u check battery life in few minutes ?

There's an application by the name of Battery Meter,Install it..

It will show approx time for each activity you can do with current battery charge.

Considering that time, make a call or play music for 20-25minutes...

If the battery level decrease as per the time shown then its ok

Else if it is decreasing at a faster rate(than as shown by application) then there might be a problem with battery...

I would suggest against buying an Iphone with only checking for 1-2 hours.. I'll give you my personal experiences with buying second hand Iphone:

1st Deal: Bought an iPhone 2G around 2 yrs back second hand, it was absolutely fine on all the aspects people have talked about above. But it had a problem, which I found out 3 days later. It used to get out of sleep mode every now n then, eating battery, thus lasting only 8-10 hours on standby.

2nd Deal: Iphone 3GS, around 6 months back.. from TE, again gud in every department, but it had another problem... It used to restart every now n then.. ending ur call, gamins session... n what not.... hardware problem...

These could be extreme cases, but it happened to me.. So I would suggest buy a first hand only... or second hand only from a friend...

It is always gud to have everything with warranty.. but with warranty price also increases.. so it all depends on a persons budget... whether u can afford it or not....

to be honest if the battery life and pixels are good you are set.ask for a 2 day testing warranty if possible.i got 2 iphones second hand one from TE member swatikrj.both are till date working very well.[one 3g and a 3gs]
