why do you people want to waste this drive by putting it in an external enclosure.

On USB interface, yeh.. it's as good as wasted. That's why I'm looking for eSata enclosure, as my mobo has eSata. :)

@Virulbug: Hey buddy, if you're visiting lammy/prime today, can you please check for availability/price of CM XCraft 250 (RX-3SB) enclosure? Thx in advance.

got my self a simple enter SATA casing. works good, ra for 2 - 3 hours at a stretch works fine on the 500 GB .
 
How is it wasted in an enclosure? Agreed, USB is a bottleneck, but this drive is the highest capacity, 2 platter drive around. Being one of the coolest high capacity drives around, i dont see how its "WASTED" in an enclosure.

Did Prime reduce the price below 3850/- ? Seems our Delhi mates have paid below 3600/- !! (according to Switch) ..... I mentioned this to Gulbir but he said he could not reduce price below 3850/-, but I find that YOU have at times got lower prices from Prime then the ones I got (I think Meenal likes your After Shave Lotion :ohyeah: )
 
That's right eazy sire... I did indeed got a price below 3600 but i believe SMC will not honour anything below 3650 to anybody else... So lets keep that to be base price... Though if you buy in quantity 2+ drives you might get a 3600 flat price...

But even at those prices i ain't complaining...
 
got the drive for 3850. swapnil didnt reduce the rate any further. got a tag casing, dell se198wfp and tv tuner for lcd also. :D

i asked for coolermaster at couple of places, they had no idea. prime had only ide one, didnt have the sata model. the tag casing was for 800. there was another casing, some epical (dont know the spelling) brand he mentioned for 1400.

this tag casing sucks. i guess the main sata to usb converter would last, but there are other issues. firstly, the screws are thicker than the holes! :@ as i cant put the screws, now i have to be careful so that the drive doesnt pop out. :@ also the power adapter seems totally cheapo.

now i feel i should have ordered atleast a cheap rosewill casing through kmd. i thought that the tag one would be around the same quality as rosewill. but again, dont know how good rosewill is. :P

does anyone have a WD mybook or ST freeagent hard disk busted? i would be happy to take the case. :P

man this hard drive takes ages to format connected through usb. its been half an hour and only 10% formatted!

If I am not mistaken Apical is an APEX imported brand. Check with Nilesh of APEX, they were also the importers of the Vantec cases.
 
Is it safe to buy it from there? Do Western Digital have good customer service? I'll be getting two of these from Prime. Are they clearing out stocks or is there some other catch?

Your Registered Dealer is offering 3600 + shipping It comes to 3651 by surface and 3681 by air cargo
