Hey Guys,

I am looking to buy a printer. I know there is another thread here http://www.techenclave.com/pc-peripherals/help-me-buy-hp-all-one-162378.html

But the requirements are quite different for me.

My requirements:

1. I use my printer occasionally so if I buy inkjet there is a chance that the ink will dry up. So i am thinking of going for a laser printer.

2. May need to print out occasional images..so what is better and cheaper here?

3. Need a scanner, copier and fax also. But also my budget is around 6k probably a little more if the VFM factor is more:)

4. I am not in favor of HP because of cartridge refill issues. I heard canon is pretty good and u can easily refill cartridges for 150 bucks even for a laser printer

5. Need to have the option to make it wireless.

6. would prefer a compact and good looking printer with ok print quality. Don't care much about the print quality:P

Did I mention that I need to make my printer wireless? I seriously need to have this done. the table which houses my desktop will look crappy if I place the printer. So I am plannin to put it someplace else and probably I can fire a print out and collect the print out from that location. I can invest an additional 1K for this. BUT this is utmost important:)

Looked at canon.in but am unsure of thier prices. Also inquired with a dealer canon print, copy, scan (LASER) comes for some 12k. So a tad expensive for my needs I think...+ its not wireless so the cost to make it wireless would increase:S

Not possible.

1) Can buy laser printer in 6k.

2) Can buy mono laser printer in 6k, so no color images.

3) Not possible if you're going in for a laser, cheapest would be 12k (like you said).

4) Laser printers use toner, HP ones can be easily refilled for 150 bucks from Nehru Place.

5) You'll need to connect it to a computer and further share it. Doubt it if you'd get a laser printer that has wireless capabilities even if you increase your budget to 20k.

6) Cannot have a compact laser printer with fax, scan, copy features.

Revise budget or go in for an inkjet. You can look for a network printer and hook it onto the network.

So which brand is better for inkjet..considering ink refills and price?

Also, for 12k how is VFM for a laser printer? Moreover any specific models which are good?

I'm using a HP all-in-one for the past 3 years or so now, works like a horse. Got it for 18k back in the day.

I find it total VFM since I usually take around 5 print outs per day, maybe more, use it as a fax machine and most of all, as a photocopier. It totally depends on the print duty, one thing I really like is that the toners don't dry with time, which is a major problem with inkjet's, lost count of how many cartridges I've had to throw because of that.

But then the laser printer is mono and for my color printing needs I get them done from outside, its much cheaper than doing it at home anyway.

For the laser printer, I'd suggest HP or Samsung, don't know much about Canon's printers, but they're supposed to be real good, not sure about the laser ones though. You might get Samsung a bit cheaper than the Canon.

I've got an HP C4588. Bought it around 5-8 months back. Cost me 8k and is wireless. Just have to install it once by attaching to a computer. Then other computers can access it directly via the network. Pretty good buy.

I'm sorry but I haven't really monitored it's usage since its used at home. If you are going to be a light-medium user, I guess it won't disappoint you.

Yup I am a light medium user...My only concern is the ink drying up.... How regularly do u take printouts?

For me...I sometimes take printouts once in a month and sometimes 20-30 copies a day...so the <once a month> is a trigger for inking drying up...Any comments?

Ok Guys...haven't bought the printer till now..

was looking thru ebay and I could find these.

Epson Stylus TX111 All-In-One Inkjet Printer +Copy+Scan: 3299

HP Deskjet F380 All in One Printer, Scanner & Copier: 3499

CANON PIXMA All in One Printer - Print Copy Scan MP258: 3285

SAMSUNG ML-1640 LASER PRINTER, Cheapest Black: 4890

Do u think any of these are good enough for a purchase?

Hi, Get yourself CISS so no question of drying the ink even if it is kept for 1-2 months
And no hassels of Refilling and All.
In Mumbai, You can get it for Rs.2000 with Pre-filled ink of 100ml
Epson AIO Tx111 CISS and HP F380 are available i will make further inquiry about Canon and tell
Go For HP it is observed that all HP Printers can be repaired but few can be repaired in terms of others HPs ratio of reparing with comparison to others is 90:50

But if you are ready to spend Rs.6000 then you can Get a Officejet(with Anwering machine ones)Series Product with Fax,Scan and Copy facility the only weak point while scanning/copying is you can not scan Books or the ones like of it which you can easily do in F380

Cartridges are cheap, the worst thing is the ink dries up in the printer head, there is no way to fix that except to change the damn head. Cost to replace is nearly 60% of a brand new one. You must have noticed the print getting faint as you replaced with new cartridges, never as dark as the first time. I hate inkjets for this reason.

Having said that, i'm all for getting a good ol laser :)

But there are so many options now, a print /scanner seems better than seperates. Good enough for scanning pages but a flatbed is more versatile and prolly a better purchase.

Thanks annababu...but I am a little confused:(

What's CISS:S

Also Dude,,u suggested CISS first then u said to go for HP:huh:.....?

And lastly, are u saying Epson AIO Tx111 CISS is avauilable for 2k? Its an ALL in one printer BTW

Dont get confused
CISS is not a Printer
It is continuous ink supply system which is connected to Cartridge in order to provide continuous flow of ink
So there is no need to refill cartridge
CISS system is available for the Printers Epson Tx101 printer and HP one which you are looking to purchase
CISS System will cost you around Rs.2000 with a Prefilled INK in it after the Demo Cartridges get nearby empty you Just need to plug system to those Cartridges and its done. No Hassels No Issues

I have heard that (not sure HP or cannon and which models) if there is no ink then u can not scan. Is this true ?
