I am trying to figure out if a printer (that does not have an ethernet connection or Wifi etc..) can be used as LAN printer?
Can this be used for printing from other devices (laptops) that connect to the same LAN?
If yes, would all machines need to use the same OS (i.e. if my printer is connected to a Windows machine and other systems on the n/w are Linux laptops etc.)?

Just want to know this before I decide on a printer for my network.

TIA

It can be used as a lan printer.U have to install it on a PC and then share it giving it needed permissions.Yes u can use the printer on linux using samba.Only thing is the pc connected to the printer must always be on.

^ But that PC will need to be switched on for any other device to use the printer.

You will need a Print Server, many wireless routers have this option these days. So get a good wireless router supporting the printer you want to use, attach the printer to the router's USB port and you can use it over the network.

Hmm... the wireless router options seems good. Any idea on the cost for these?

BTW would the PC also need a Wifi dongle to connect to the printer in this case?

^ The Asus N13U allows you to share the printer over the network. Costs around 3k I think.

A wifi dongle is not necessary as the PC can be physically connected to the router by using a network cable.
