Mom needs one for her office.

I want a very good scanner and printer. These are the two main functions. Fax machine and copier will be a bonus.

Can you recommend any good ones ?

Main thing is a scanner. We dont have a scanner and a good quality scanner will really help.

i have canon pixima 145...printing is good...scan quality aint great. probably hp 915 AIO will come in ur budget or some higher model in canon

Recently bought a MFP by Samsung SCX-4200 For 7.5k, this is a Mono laser printer. The scanner is not that good as compared to any other standalone ones. Bought it for my cousins and he wanted some thing that can also do photocopies as well with a laser printer. And this one was the cheapest we can get. HP one was around 12k+. Even the SCX-4500 looks great but the price was 9.8k iirc.

Ok. I had a look at kinda shortlisted these....

1). HP Deskjet F4185 All-in-One Printer, Scanner, Copier (CB585A) (Rs. 4,999)

2). Canon PIXMA MP228

3). Canon PIXMA MP476

the first two have a scanner resolution of 1200 dpi and the last one has a resolution of 2400dpi.

the last one has an MRP of 9995. It's the most expensive of the lot.

Do you think the street price will be lower ? If so, by how much ?

Ah, ive got the Samsung SCX 4200 printer some time back. Only problem is the damn toner chip. I refilled it alright for arnd 200/-, but can't get the chip replaced / reset. Anybody have any ideas, where this can be done in mumbai?

I had got it replaced for 150/- before, but the guy says he won't do it any more and will only refill toner or sell remade cartridges. Also, original printer cartridges cost around 3k, which is way too much. In 2 months, u culd buy another printer, spending so much only on cartridges!

Ive got the SCX 4100 too, and that has no chip and no such expensive refilling hassels.

I am not really counting lasers because you cannot get a colour laser AIO anywhere near your budget.
If you are looking for low running cost then the HP 915 at about 7 k is great. But it has now been replaced by the 735. These use comparatively low cost cartridges with high output.
If that is out of your budget, then you have the Canon MP series, the Epson CX5500 and their newer TX101 and the HP4288. But all these will have higher running costs. The Epsons are supposed to be economical because they have separate cartridges for each colour so you have only one colour to replace when it runs out. But in practice that will still be costly.
If you are willing to take a chance, there is the Brother DP165 at around Rs 4000 which is a rarity these day because it uses just ink tanks without electronics. This means potentially safe refilling without damage.
I personally checked out about cartridges before I recently bought a AIO. I found from various refillers that the best experience has been for the HP21 and HP22 cartridges. So I looked for a HP model that uses these. The HP models currently officially sold by HP don't use this. You can get the HP F2235, F4185 and F2120 which use those cartridges. But you wont get them from a authorised HP source. The 2235 in particular, is given away with certain Compaq computers and not officially sold separately.
I myself bought a F2120 because I wanted black. Got it for Rs 3490/- from ebay and used a discount code for a Rs 500 further saving.

As I already answered in another thread, the 915 cartridges cost just over Rs 400/- and last quite long. If you can get it from some dealer it will be better than the 735. This should not be so difficult because it is still listed on the HP website.
