Linux Problem installing Linux

hmmm.... I guess bootable cds/DVDs when written at full speed like 48x/52x tend to fail. try buring a dvd with slow speed like 2x or 4x. not really sure though.

wait... I guess there is a way by which you can install linux from iso iteself.

incase of ubuntu, one can burn the iso to pendrive using ultraiso.

as for currupt media.

burn the disks at lower speed. seems like an issue with either disk or burned not being capable of handling high speeds.

Also, before starting any linux installation.. the boot menu shall allow you to check the integrity of the installation disk... if integrity check is passed and you still get those errors then do an hdd checkup..!!

Well......I tried both LiveCD and LiveUSB none worked. And as I said earlier also I've burned all those DVD's at 8X. Even I checked the HDD, there is no problem. Anyway I'll try that check media option while booting. Thanks for the info, I've seen it but never thought of checking it.

Well guys this time I tried Mandriva and burnt my DVD in 4X. And got the same problem.

And for those who r suggesting to boot from USB, I've tried that also and the same error.

So this time I'm sure that my DVD Drive is not faulty(as all other CD/DVD's I'm burning are working perfectly), any particular image(ISO) is not corrupted(because I downloaded all the ISO's from utorrent and how can all the ISO's of different distro's be corrupted).

Now I sespect my HDD. Is this possible that the space where I want to install Linux is itself got corruted or build some bad sector's???

But I tried creating partition on that space from windows and I'm successfull in it. Is there any other option to verify that particular space of my HDD??

I'm using windows without problem and I don't think my whole HDD is faulty.

As far my knowledge goes I think there is only one option left to me is try borrowing a friend's HDD and try to install Linux there. If it installs successfully then sure that particular space of my HDD has got some problem.

There is another option also : Forget Linux :( :'( (which I don't want)

I dont know what's the problem. I was using Win XP and Fedora 10 in dual boot before complete format and upgrading to Win 7. And after that my same DVD of Fedora 10 is not working also. So media and DVD Drive cann't be faulty as I used the same media to install Linux earlier. What do u guys think???

^^Nope didn't run full test. Stopped it after Test 6 completed.

Well....I borrowed a HDD from a friend and tried to install Mandriva in it and got the same errors. Tried connecting the HDD to different SATA Ports also but the result is same. So the HDD itself has no problem. Though I didn't tried other distro's.

But surprisingly I thought of trying the Ubuntu 9.4 CD that I ordered online way back in 2009. And I don't belive, it get installed successfully. Now I'm wasting my bandwidth to upgrade it to 9.10 :)

Though I've installed Linux successfully I would like to know what are the problems with the distro's I've downloaded???

I must mention that I downloaded all the distro's from utorrent, Burned all those at 8x and some at 4x.

All other disc's I'm burning are working perfectly fine. Dont know what's the problem??

What do you guy's think??

One more question....I want to edit the GRUB. But in ubuntu there is no option except of manually editing the file. I want to make Windows the default OS. How can I achive this??

ok i highly suspect writer or cd problems - have you changed writer and cd brand/model and tried?

if you have and it still fails then i am still suspecting RAM - even though you say 9.04 original CD worked for you...

Ok...Thank you for the suggestion. I would run full RAM test and report it here within a day or two. And in that time let me try to burn the ISO's in some other machine's and try to install and lets see what happens.

From your words I also now suspect my RAM's as I've tried to make LiveUSB from those ISO's suggested by some member's here in some previous posts. I get the same error. This points to suspect my RAM's.

But I just want to know, If my RAM's are faulty how am I running Win 7 without any problems?? And even Ubuntu??

Hey I said many times before that I tried that too when linuxtechie suggested that in his 1st reply. But I'm getting same error then also.

Hi, as vishalrao suggested, I ran full memtest on both the ram's one by one and found one ram faulty. It started giving error's from test 3. While the other ram was perfect. Thank you vishalrao and other members too.

I removed the faulty ram and installed fedora 12 using the same disc which didn't run then....!! :ohyeah: :hap2:

I'll have to buy another ram :(

still waiting for confirmation whether you ran a long/full memtest :) it's nagging me in my mind!
