i have burned some DVDs in my sony DVD burner and now when i insert those DVDs it takes too much time to read them ...... some times upto 1 min ...... and if i want to copy them back to my comp it take tooo much time .... sometimes 15-20 mins for 4 gb data ...... the blank DVD used are HP and Moser Baer ...... even burning at 8x doesn't helps ..... is there some problem with the DVD burner

should i burn them again coz its really critical data and i can't afford to lose them ...... its around 40-45 DVDs :(

Thanks
Rahul

maybe a moser baer problem.. i had this same problem with MB 8x... taking too much to copy the data. and then after some more time.. it just started giving me a CRC error.. corrupt dvd :( (happened with quite a few mb's )

CRC error ... noooooooooooo

alll DVDs are fine not a single scratch ...... man copying them again willl be huge task .....

I also feel. Getting a 2.5incher 80GB is better alternative to storing data than DVD. I bought a brand new Sony DVD writer and it could not even read the original Hanuman DVD i bought.

Either the problem is in reading or media. If u have a laptop with DVD rom u can check in that and 99% it will read the DVD.

well.. you shoiuld go for a newer hdd.. if your not gonna be filling it up in like one month :| ..

i still would recommend dvds cause if stored properly , the dvds could def last longer then the hdd's in some cases..

actually data is on HDD ..... but i have taken backup on DVD's ....... some data ~20GB is on 2 HDDs and DVD(very critical lol) ........ coz u can't say anything about HDD they can crash anytime (not a single has crashed on me tilll date :D)...... but stilll ......

@Techhead which software are u talking about ..... can u give a link ....

Thanks for all replies guys

EDIT: got the nero CD/DVD Speed will post the reasults soon ....

here are the screenshots..... this is the worst disc took 25 mins to transfer the whole disc .....

if someone explain the screenshot for me it will be really nice :D

the first screenshot isnt really important...

The second one os very important and it shows that what you have there is very nearly a coaster....

The quality score is very bad..... it should preferably be 90 and above.

I dont remember exactly the sae values for PI errors and PI Failures... Maybe techhead can shed some light on that :P

And these errors are not always due to scratches.....it could be that it was burnt on a bad DVD burner.

This is the basis for DVD writers to be classified as good and bad..... every time you burn a DVD, do this scan..... usually, the DVD degrades over time....but if yoiu get a score of some 95 or above soon after burning, I guess you are safe....

i got this DVD burner around 1 month ago its sony Q-120A ...... previously i was having Sony Q-10 something .... that was giving me problems so i changed to this one ...... and this DVD is burned with new writer ...... lemme burn another DVD today and see the score ...... if the burner is bad i have to get another :( .... this sucks ...... i never paid much attention to disk burning but i guess good days are over :(

EDIT: and the media is HP not MB

Just tried it on one old MB media burned by this writer and this one looks ok right ?? so i think i have to burn the HP ones again ...

@Rahul, can't see the images (as am browsing from office) but if there aren't bad spikes in PIF's and the quality score is over 90, then the disc should read properly without any issues and will also last longer depending on how much care u take in storing them.

Just a tip, take a scan as soon as u burn a disc and then do the same 2 or 3 months later and chk if there is deterioration in quality. That should give u a good indication on how good the discs are. This though a cumbersome procedure, saves ur critical data. Most discs, unless a horrible burn, last over a year.

thanks freaky ...... willl do that ...... i never paid much attention to CD/DVD burning ....... finding right blank media seems tough task .....
