Graphic Cards Problem with graphics card

Yesterday I reassembled by rig into a new Jamaica cabinet witht he zebby 640W PSU. after assembling, I made sure that all the connetion are correct. for my 6800GT AGP card, I connected a molex using a seperate line from the PSU. after starting the PC, instead of the regular bootup, the screen was filled with colored bands. I thought that may be the connection or the slot was loose. so I removed and reinserted the card and the power connector. still the same problem.

What can be the reason for this...?? Has by card by any chance gone bad ?. It was working fine in my old setup before assembling

yes the card is bad. if it shows patterns with different colours or just white patterns with lines then its GPU problem :) sad to make u know that. and same problem happened on my 6600GT GPU. did u do something with ur GPU? like u opened heatsink?

I cleaned the dust on the heatsink. How can be GPU under the heat sink be affected because of this? can this happen because of some other faulty component?

^^ Yeah, that's a dead card for sure ;)

Happened when I spread some thermal paste over the resistors..

In your case, I think you must not have placed the card in an anti-static bag when you removed it from your case, and hence it caught some electrical signals which blew it off...

Its probably just a loose connection or the psu is busted. Did you try with the old psu again?

can this happen if the 12V supply to the card is not going properly. All other components are getting power from the PSU. This is any way a backup PSU the dealer has given me till my Neo HE comes. I had taken all precautions while assembling. still if the card indeed went bad, then I do not know what to say. It was working fine in the morning.

Try changing the connector.

Also clean the contact plate on your card with a pencil eraser and clean the inside of the PCIe clot as well...
