Hi guys. I have a HP dv5118TX .. about 1 year old. I have been trying to re-install XP pro edition, in order to maintain a clean system.

As i try to do that, after getting to the screen that asks about Installations option ( Press R to repair, Esc to cancel etc.. ) to be chosen, setup somehow doesn't recognise the hdd.

It gives a message : No hard-disk found. Make sure your hard disk is connected and restart the installation.

And after this, the system reboots.
I tried running the previously installed XP and it runs absolutely fine.
What could be the problem ? and how do i go about it ??

Try to reseat the hard drive.

you mean to say i should re-seat ( take out and put in again ) the hard-disk - right ??
Or is that re-set ?? if yes, how do i go about it ??

If the above did not work, try going into the bios and disabling the HDD in the boot priority, and then try formatting it from there on.

If that doesnt work either, then the best option would be to extract the HDD and try formatting it by connecting to another computer via USB and then plug the HDD back into your Laptop. (try this only if you are out of warranty period)

Do let us know.

Yes, take the hard drive out and reseat it again. To check how to take the hard drive out, refer to your laptop manual, its not difficult, usually it involves removing a couple of screws and pulling it out.

Here the manual for your laptop.

@soulweaver - thanks a lot mate ! will try doing that.

@shakensoul - Thanks a lot for the link ! Did try 're-seat'ing the hdd. Didn't work. Btw, its a SATA hdd. Will that make a difference in configuring the boot priority ?

I had read about this in Digit forums. You need to slipstream a Win XP CD with nLite and include the sata hdd controller drivers included into that so that it detects it when you install XP. Check this link out. You might get all the help you need.

yup...Slipstream d drivers...Using nlite...

U must be using an old cd,,maybe sp2 but stil maybe before sata came...
N u can also include ryanvm update pack...Dat'll really rev up ur os wid all d latest updates ,,, den try n setup,,,

Since u said old install works fine,,dis might be the only prob...

Just after it says, "inspecting your computers hardware", you will get a blue screen and at the bottom it will read, "Press F6 to install ......", you have to Press F6 . Basically XP will require your SATA controller drivers before it can detect the HD, the drivers will be found on the manufacturers website and you will have to prepare a floppy with the drivers loaded and after pressinf F6 you will have to insert that floppy and let xp load the drivers, but the best bet would be to slipstream the drivers into the install using nLite.

Hi all..

Sorry for a late reply, but i did not get time to try the installation again with all your suggestions.

Finally, i was able to install the new copy of XP yesterday. Slipstreaming didnt work. But disabling the SATA Native Support in BIOS worked absolutely perfect.

Now, another question that i have :

What exactly does 'SATA Native Support : Enabled' do ???

I tried re-setting the option to 'enabled', but then the system doesnt boot up.

Damm forgot about the sata native support option.

When you disable sata native support, hot plug and native command queuing are also disabled. So your sata hard disk works more like an ide hard disk.
Why didnt the slipstream option work for you, wat error did you get.

Download mass storage drivers DriverPacks.net > DriverPacks > DriverPack MassStorage
and follow this tutorial, you can ignore anything about nlite, coz u dont need that for slipstreaming.

DriverPacks.net Forum / Driverpacks tutorial (English)

What exactly does this mean ?? And how much difference will it make if the SATA hdd is running as a Normal IDE hdd ??

@slipstreaming error - back to square one. Got the same error saying 'no hard-disk was found. System will now re-start.'
May be i didn't do slipstreaming right.
