^ Mainly it is all my camera pictures and videos, whatsapp pictures and videos, memos, etc. which I have already done using Kies. Now I came to know from m0h1t that I also need to backup and restore my IMEI number. Is there anything else I may be missing?
Update on my phone
The first day after root and removal of bloatware, I still had the phone die on me once with heavy battery discharge.
The second day was completely uneventful. Let us see how it copes on day 3.[DOUBLEPOST=1404278654][/DOUBLEPOST]@m0h1t - I used the Siyah ICS kernel for rooting. Is that the right kernel to use when I go for CM11?

  • CM11 will come with its own kernel and everything. Once you're on CM11. I don't think Kies sync will work. Backup your pictures and videos directly from the phone and use the free titanium backup to backup whatsapp
  • EFS partition holds important IMEI related information, which should be backed up as a precaution. You don't need to restore it unless it's damaged. Use this app to backup the efs partition - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2582811
  • Once this is done, download CM11 zip from here - http://download.cyanogenmod.org/get/jenkins/71644/cm-11-20140609-SNAPSHOT-M7-i9100.zip
  • Considering you have siyah kernel, you will also have its custom recovery. Reboot to recovery and flash CM11. Also clear data, cache and dalvik for a clean start.
  • Now copy Images and videos back, and restore whatsapp from titanium backup. You might not be able to restore samsung specific apps

More problems with my phone. I had rooted using the Siyah kernel. The problem had not been resolved with that. I was going to install CM11 but I didn't get the time so far. Meanwhile I also ordered a new battery. Now suddenly, my phone is unable to detect the SIM. I changed to another SIM I had. With this SIM, it is detected but the phone is unable to connect to the network. I don't think it has anything to do with the Siyah kernel because the phone was working for a week or two after rooting.
The same SIM card works in another phone.
Now I want to get the phone repaired. How can I revert my kernel to the original one? Please help.
The phone is no more under warranty. Any pointers whether I should take it to samsung or there are better options available? I live in Pune.

Flash stock . Have galaxy y , grand , note , s3 , s4 all on stock . Even my tab p3110 is on stock .
PS All custom roms have some drawbacks I.e. battery drain , camera problems , wifi problems etc . If phone used for work then stock is best . If phone used for video audio games etc then any cm or asop rom is good .
P.S . I have flashed custom roms on all my phones except s4 as its in warranty and the knox counter will increase . Found using all custom roms fun for a while but in the long run stock is best .:)

@ankushv - how can I get the stock kernel back? Any pointers would help. My OS is still stock. I recently got an update after I flashed the Siyah kernel but my phone refuses to install the update because it detects a foreign kernel I guess.
Anyway regarding my SIM card, there may be a problem with it. I had put the card in a Nokia C6 and it worked but sometimes it fails to detect the SIM card too. I guess the problem is with the SIM card.
Next I put the SIM card back in my SGS2 and found that it detects if it is manual. Difficult for me to get a SIM replacement here in Pune as mine is a Mumbai number. I'll change it when I next visit Mumbai.

Whenever I flashed cm on my s3 all I needed to do was load the original firmware via Odin v 3.xx . After flashing stock ROM via Odin if the phone did not boot then remove battery and clear cache and reset via the stock recovery installed after the stock ROM has been flashed via Odin .
As far as the Sim is concerned clean the contacts with some alcohol . it may make the Sim work properly .
Foreign kernel will not let you install auto update from Samsung . For the update to work phone must have stock recovery , kernel and ROM .

Since the last 24 hours my SIM is working fine in my phone. You mentioned Odin 3.xx. But Don't I have to first download the original firmware first? Where do I get that? Once I download and install the original firmware, will that overwrite the Siyah kernel as well?

Thanks for the help so far but I am just unable to figure out which is the stock software I need to install. Can anyone point me to the link from which I can download the stock firmware?
I already have Odin which I had installed previously to install the Siyah kernel. Now I want to undo all that and install the stock so that I can use the latest Samsung update.

Although I was not able to use the Samsung update directly from my phone, it worked by using Kies.
Now I have stock. However, the custom count is 2. What is the simplest way to reset this to 0?

You will have to check xda for that . Chainfire app for root and triangle away app to remove unofficial/modified status . I had done this only once to my s3 . So don't remember the exact procedure . Sorry . I'm now on stock on my galaxy y / note 1 / grand duos / s3 and s4 . Don't like cm and asop . For stock android i have nexus7 and moto e(almost stock ) . Cheers
