hi guys, i've a Phenom II 550, yesterday it's one Pin was broken. Now i want to know if it can be replaced or not because it's a physical damage na. The funny part is it's still running flawlessly. Is it possible?
regards

Yep, very much possible, a good amount of pins on the processor are for support purposes, looks like you broke one of those, that shouldn't affect the functioning of your CPU.

ALTHOUGH, if you received the processor in such state, you should give it back to the dealer and get a replacement ASAP.

Yeah, they work sometimes, but it is very suspicious that you got one in that state... try to get it replaced

no guys, i didn't get it in that state. I think it's broken by my fault. I just wanna know that can it be replaced now, coz it's around 6 months old and obviously the dealer won't agree that i got this in this state because this doesn't happens usually.

The second thing is since it's working now, so are there any chances it can bring problems in future(i don't think so)?.

Atleast Try for Replacement if it get replaced then lucky or otherwise if not replaced then u can use it as before

There you go. Always tell the truth.

Yes you won't get replacement unless your relationship with dealer is strong and old . ( Don't take it in the wrong sense )

You can talk to him. He won't agree though. If you know the dealer well and he feels like helping you out, he can send it back and say that the processor was received in such a state, but this solely depends on the dealer and on what terms are you with him cause by doing so, he's taking the matter on his hands.

Anyway, it should not be a problem to run the processor without the support pins. What would be better would be to check out the processor pin placement on google and check which pin you have broken, I'm 100% sure its the support pin otherwise it would have not worked. Run some CPU stress tests too.

But don't the processors have 3 years replacement warranty ?

My old Athlon 64 had a 3 years replacement warranty. Similar thing had hapenned to me 2 years ago. Some of my pins got bent ( my mistake ) and it was not going into the socket.

The dealer gave me a replacement of the same. I dont know whether he got a new piece from AMD inplace of that or not ;)

They do, but if you break a pin yourself then its not valid...this is like buying a new car, crashing it and then saying its covered by warranty.

A few of the pins are actually useless and are there for socket compatibility and also for some of the newer instruction sets that are not yet out. So if it works dont worry about it too much.

u can solder it. i had done with intel processor many time we can solder it and they start working.some of noob engineer brake those pins so we used to have fixed tatway. or another one is pin size metel put exact @ motherboard socket it work both same way cheer

Don't do any soldering, you just broke your support pin and nothing else. It'll function normally and without any hitches. Don't further complicate the process.

For your own satisfaction run CPU stress tests.

Again, you don't need to do ANYTHING. Only some of the pins are functional on the processor and you broke one which is NOT.

Don't solder it! Just let it be, just ignore it and continue till you buy a new proc. And no, if it starts and works normally, nothign will suddenly go wrong because of the broken pin.

if its working then just be happy.

you cant ask for rma on this.

max you can do is ask for amd's advice on this by cotacting their support center.

do not go for any soldering and stuff, involves the risk of permanent damage.

if he tries to get it replaced and the dealer doesnt agree with it
then again he has to assemble it

now what if he breaks another pin while assembling:rofl:

so enjoy with your proccy till it dies :hap2:
