Prolonged time in PC start up!

Doremon

Level D
Since last 2-3 weeks, my PC4 takes too much long time (2-3 minutes!) while log in. Further 5 minutes takes to start internet (I'm using BSNL broadband).

One doubt is that I have selected (system configuration utility) Normal start up mode wherein loading all devices and services while log in. Is this mode ok?

In Diagnostic start up mode (load only basic devices and services while log in), PC takes hardly 5-10 seconds to log in.

The 3rd mode is Selective start up mode but i don't know any thing for this mode.

Bit confused which mode should i opt. I use MS AV recently downloaded from Microsoft.

Normal start up is fine, just check performance log and see which application is taking long time to load.

5-10 seconds startup is impossible with normal HDD, even latest generation SSD takes 10-20 seconds for starting windows.

noting Viva & CA 50, will update after checking all that......

Also suspicious on virus in boot? Should i run AV in boot drive also?

My machine is not formatted for a long long time but still it boots in under 2 minutes. You need to check what is failing / taking long time to start.

If you have any heavy app installed then there is no way around it but to wait for it to start. Or else select startup as manual and start those services only when you require it.

#[member='Doremon'], yep you can run a virus scan. But usually these kind of problem appears when there are lot of unwanted startup programs, or the files in the boot drive are higher fragmented. This happens if you haven't De-fragmented your HDD till now.

Also HDD issue can also be contributing parameter

^thumps up! on all your words. vl check today night & post then.

+1^ : Then why the hell is doing waiting for another 5-10 minutes for internet. After switch on BB modem, [ADSL CPE (Customer Premise Equipment)] initially, DSL orange light blinking till next to 5-10 minutes. After getting stable that orange light, internet starts then. But in all this process i.e. booting computer to start net its damn 10 minutes I have to wait for it!!

That happens so that it stablizes the path from the modem to the server (this is as per my knowledge, may or may not be true tho) This has to happen and there is no way around it.

^djmykey:- good point buddy but well, this not happens earlier means not taking too much time before.

Now having doubts like usb port infection (BB modem plugged), any BB gain frequency issues may be or PC OS resist connectivity. Am really fainted here.

#[member='Doremon'], i don't personally use BB modem, but i have seen in many situation, when the modem takes time to stabilize say amount 3-4 minutes.

In your case, the time might escalate due to some network issue (signal, etc.)

Dudes..

Last night, PC de-fragmented as well AV also run.

I attached two file with this post, having information on 1) process 2) start up applications 3) BB modem net function.

A few suggestions:

Remove Roxio and Nero. I hate both those softwares personally. Nero is so loaded with bloatware that it takes too much space even for installation. I use Ashampoo Burning Studio.

Rest softwares seem to be required. Also why Windows XP.. its an old OS now.

yes both Nero and Roxio is used to slow down the startup.

also remove the unwanted startup entries using CCleaner or msconfig utility.

Also run the disk defragment utility.

Use CCleaner to take the screenshot of your startup list. The screenshot you uploaded is not showing all the entries.

After installing CCleaner, Open it and go to Tools > Startup.

Something like this...

#[member='Doremon'], seems like you have lots of startup programs, and please post the image, rather then the doc files

You still have some software's which I do not like

Some more suggestions:

Winamp > Foobar

RemoteControl belongs to PowerDVD. Don't know what is that. If you don't use remove it.

RoxWatchTray also belongs to Roxio. Remove it.

Also note, these are suggestions, you are free to do whatever you might wish. And for the love of God post images out here not doc files.

The jpeg's take a weird resolution for some reason.

Tried lot to do cut & past business but not done. djmykey:- buddy, thanks for your close eye! sure will remove & update.
