I have a Lenovo S10-3 netbook.

While cleaning it today, I removed the battery and saw a slot for SIM card! Please see the pics for reference.

Does it mean there is an internal modem in the netbook? If yes, is this a 3G enabled one? How can I check it?

The netbook didnt come with any bundled software to indicate that I can use a SIM card. So what software would I need?

Also, what software to be used in Ubuntu 10.10 to extract the SIM card related functionality (i.e. SMS, calls, internet)?

My DELL XPS 1330 also has that slot, however, the circuit is missing from inside. After some googling, I found that that feature was supposedly released for North America only.

If your net-book actually does have the whole thing, awesome!

hmm only slot does not do anything... you need to have a 3g mini pci-e card installed in ur laptop which is obviously not there, no vendor pre-installs it there .. you need to buy it from yourself and install it..
