Install custom firmware the henkaku 3.6 and you won't have to buy any game unless you wish to keep it totally stock...
I have 100 Bit games may be more ll downloaded from the internet and all work like breeze.

Thing is i dont know how to do it. I find these things totally complicated. If something goes wrong I might accidentally brick it.

Watch youtube videos

Give it a few days and may be note down all the steps related to your firmware

Once you are confident enough, you can go ahead.

But yes your apprehensions are definitely justified
