uh ! when did anyone here tell you to go spend 60k on a gaming PC. Secondly unless running insane resolutions u dont need a 7800 series card. Thirdly never blame money or other peoples choice in order to justify your claim of "PS2 ownz PC". Thats statement is really kiddish.......

Ahem, so the 2k plus members of TE who are 70-80% all gamers are dumb ? Was i dumb on spending on both the ps2 and a gaming rig both ? Or were you intelligent in buying a ps2 and croning about its advantages ? Its all in the economics, you might feel its stupid to spend some cash on a good PC, others might not. You can't seriously expect people to believe that the ps2 is a better platform for gaming because it is cheap or because gaming rigs cost more.

Err.....please go back and read what gameplay is and how all the elements i.e. sounds, graphics, physics affect gameplay. Another thing you are quite unaware is that platformers and brawlers are mostly console material just like FPS, strategy etc are for the PC. So highlighting those are pretty much useless.

Agreed, the biggest advantage of a console is the life and no upgrade thing. Well things will change from now. There will be upgradeable hdds, add-on controllers, addon drives like hd-dvd etc, media storage etc. All of these are upgrades in a way which are going to happen with the next gen consoles.
Why shud i bang my head if i dont have a 7800 now ? I am playing mostly @ 1024 and 1280 for which the 6800U does more than fine.
Again i am sure most of the ps2 gamers harping here forget the cost of ownership of games (mostly due to the abundance in the availability of pirated games) ps2 games costly like 3k each while PC games are available for half the cost. One of the important factors which everyone ignores mostly since everyone is busy pirating, but makes a valid point in this debate.

Dude u r living in INDIA , and we are talking gaming in INDIA. and all i can say is that yes in INDIA PS2 ownz PC. Not that many are having a PS2 in india but then not many are having 6800 ultra either !:hap5:

Dude just becoz some 2000 indian gamers on this site owns a gaming rig , u r assuming that everybody has a gaming PC . I must tell u there are still lakhs of gamers in india for whom a good gaming rig is still a dream! Why? coz money does'nt grow on trees !
My Friend beats me in many new games on my PC but he still plays NFS 2 on his comp, why ?not becoz he loves that game but becoz he cant AFFORD a good gaming PC !:(

Who said u that they are not available now ?You can still replace the ps2 dvd drive with a better DVD writer ! There are still tons and tons of controllers available which are better than the orignals , You can still buy a Harddisk for the ps2 fatboy, but hey does that change anything ? Iam still playing all the cool games the same way !:clap:

You are living in INDIA dude ! And i fully support Piracy coz if a game costs u like rs4000 { which is a months salary for many } then u must be a real idiot to buy it when the same is available for 70 bucks !

Tell me why is movie piracy in INDIA less than the game piracy ? coz an orignal movie costs u around 200 bucks which most of us can afford , but buying a game for 3000 bucks thats just crazy !:S The publishers should realize that and bring down gaming prices in INDIA if they want the piracy to be reduced !:no:

A game in US costs around 40$ which for them is like 400 bucks.:hap2:

As for the gameplay part ever made use of sound of footsteps to gauge where the opponent is coming from. Ever though that ricocheting bullets killing opponents or physics involved in sniping that enemy soldier on the high lookout post. lol you seriously have no idea nor have you given a thought.

After a year or even 2-3 years the 6800u will still be playing games decently. I still have gamer friends using geforce fx5200 and mx440s.

Ok, shall we get on with the topic ?? anyway, what does a ps2 game disc cost in the local market........are the games shipped on a dvd or a cd ??
and can one play movies and mp3's on a PS2?? (use it as a CD/DVD player)
and yes can i hook it up to my 17' monitor instead of my TV?
as u can see, i know little abt ps2 .
any help will be great
 
Yes,the PS2 does play dvd movies and mp3's(also there are some cases where ppl who had their PS2's modified won't be able to play dvds),where as the games being shipped well it's now dvd's cause I hardly see any cds nowadays.For the price I assume you are talking the legal version as it would cost frm Rs.700 to Rs.3000 but I strongly advise you to check all stores if you are buying the original for 3k cause I wanted to buy half-life 1 which was 3k in one of the stores after which my friend told me to check some sites and tht's where I found out tht they were selling Half-Life 1 for Rs.1500.

Uhm, yes, that is the reply good ol' uncles and bhaiyas give when they can't counter the arguments posted against them? Or can't can't agree with them either? yeah, lets just ignore the children...no matter how much sense they actually make, there's no sense with agreeing with them in any of the points.

A brand new ps2 is still 8-9k not 7k. Another thing is it took almost 5-6 years for the ps2 to achieve this price. Until then it was around 15k and around 22k or so when it debuted or atleast when i first saw it. Besides due to limited cpu and gpu capability gameplay is being hampered

not true. Ps2 hit 179$ well over 2 years ago, that's 9k. It was 15 in India only if you went to the showrooms or malls, at that time Bazee had users selling it for 11k.

No real physics, no real time shadowing, most of the gameplay is scripted. With the next gen consoles most of these issues will be solved but still the PC gaming market will expand and continue to grow until a suitable or better alternative to it is developed.

PC has lost its killer exclusives. Even those specially known for producing grpahics, PC's only leading quality, Farcry left for the consoles. The devs wanted money, there's lots in the console market.

and 100% sims are not killers. Even with that limited hardware ps2 still produced something like Gran Turismo. Not a sim, but close, doesn't produce shadows, but close.

And don't forget the fact that without the PCs you wouldn't have console gaming in the first place.

So? The HDD are for storing data and rips, so people can play without the disks, its entirely optional. Xbox 360 won't start lagging and crash into blue screens of death if we didn't attach an upgraded controller or a hard disk drive, same thing cannot be said for a PC, becuase in there, its impossible to play without a ton of hardware requirements.

You're forgetting the fact PC games can be pirated much easier and faster than ps2. Abundace of pirated games for PC? Are you kidding? The internet is full of ripped PC games. Did you know how many people download Doom3 on its release date of suprnova.org? PC games get pirated a generation above Ps2 all over the world. Ps2 only gets heavily pirated in mid-Asia.

Fps is going to the consoles, belive it or not (Farcry, Doom3, HF-2) While those were some of the greatest FPS PC got, while consoles got tons of more killer exclusives like Halo, Re4(almost FPS). Others like Black (about to release), KillZone, TimeSplitters(also best), Darkwatch, Area51, ColdWinter, Resident Evil : Dead Aim are only to name a latest few getting all good ratings at gamespot. People have actually settled in for the analogue joystick for the mouse, plus the GunCon makes Timesplitters and Resident Evil Dead Aim fun beyond levels.

all the other FPS you might name on PC, don't post those who's port are on consoles (the list i posted above are none for PC) Fear is good, it was aimed against Re4 and didn't do anything to move it, it was good on the PC, but in overall gaming, it isn't one of the best.

With next-gen hitting, exclusive FPS's will be dead on PC (Counter Strike is the only one i see) and the only strength PC will have is strategy (and MMORPG).

All other genres, exclduing Sims, have stronger, much stronger hold on the consoles. Plus consoles went to create some of its own genres like survival horror and Beat em' ups.

@Bluff - Cool down. You gotta' listen to other people's opinion too. And when posting in debates, try to post full words. It gives kiddish feeling otherwise and English Professors like Saumil are just wating there to pick on not realizing that's the way how 80% of people post online.

anyway, i'd like 2 know if i can connect a ps2 to my monitor and yes is it possible(i believe it's not) to play multiplayer games with one ps2 and a PC :)

I think someone should make a PC vs consoles and sticky it. lol, that'll bring over major heat all over TE.
 
We had such a good debate there..(The PC vs Consoles thread, with numerous Farcry and RE4 screenshots and Params vs Sawmill(with me and SC chipping in), that was fun!!Atleast I had page long posts to read while i was bored in the office, anyways I'll search for it and read it in da office tomorrow :D).

On a serious note, It was really a neat debate...but for the Mods...ufff......
