example, gta 4. a PAL copy of this game doesnt work with NTSC console on SDTV and vice-versa.
Yes , it is obvious , why would a game be released if it can't be played on PS3
It depends on your TV , if you have a HDTV or a PC monitor capable of 720p and 1080p , then you can play any PS3 game on any PS3 regardless of PAL or NTSC , for that you have to use a HDMI cable. But if your TV is SDTV then only those PS3 games will work which are compatible with your TV's standard (i.e. PAL or NTSC)

So do we conclude that for games, the restrictions come in effect only for the sd output while hd output is totally not a problem ?
vebk said:You are wrong. You are confusing region-locking with NTSC-PAL. They are not the same thing. GTA4 is NOT region-locked. But if your TV (SDTV) is only PAL-compliant then it will not play any NTSC game/movie etc. Even if you play a NTSC VHS tape through a vcr on your SDTV, it will not work.
In other words, the deficiency is in your TV (not being multi-region) NOT in the game or the ps3.
