I was looking at the following link

Is this site reliable to buy? Before people start suggesting why not Praashant, he doesn't have stock.

Other querry is, is it ok to get the local HDMI cable or should I go for branded HDMI cables?

My room isn't much ventilated so are there any cooling systems for PS3? Buying the vertical stand will be useful?
Any other suggestions are welcome.

I'm not sure about that Zapak shop. Did you try with the nearest Croma outlet or eBay? They come with the standard 1 year warranty. Croma gives an additional 2 year warranty at a slightly higher expense - 750 INR odd.

You can go with a local HDMI cable which retails for about 250 INR off eBay. Some of them come braided with ferrite cores at both ends of the connectors.

Ventilation should not be much of an issue with the newer slim PS3s compared to the older phat models. So ideally you do not need additional cooling systems for the slim versions. Newer slim versions have cut down on the TDP with the 45nm tech Cell processor and a better centrifugal fan.

The slim can be used vertically without a stand.

Feel free to ask anything you need to know about the PS3.
 
AFAIK, it doesn't need to be in a vertical position at all. Unlike the 360, it doesn't have vent holes punctured at it's base. Sony has always kept them at the back of the console. So heat dissipation shouldn't be an issue even if you keep it horizontally. Vertical position isn't recommended unless it has a proper balancing surface or a vertical stand. Also there are chance of accidental knock outs.

Also why not try Ebay, they have some pretty good deals too?

Currently I am planning to use the PS3 with my BenQ 2200 HD monitor(connected to PC via DVI port) which has HDMI port.Can I switch displays just by changing the input settings in the monitor or do I have to disconnect other port?Can I use same 2.1 speakers for PS3? How do I connect them to PS3?

@Ethan : I don't trust Ebay for high value deals mate.

Yes you did about the audio but I just wanted to know about two displays without disconnecting other cable.
 
^where? care to explain here how does it help vertically?

@Nitin you don't have to disconnect other port, you can switch to i/p source for monitor

If your 2.1 has optical out then you can directly connect to PS3 from optical out.

Else you to buy RCA to 3.5 female converter which is cheap and connect to PS3 using it.

Yes you can. Not an issue. You can have any number of displays connected to your LCD and switch them from the LCD's change-over button in the panel.

You need to use the AV media cable that came bundled with the PS3. In which case, you'll need to use a stereo RCA female to 3.5mm female connector/cable and use it. Alternately if your LCD has a 3.5mm audio-out jack, you can use the audio off the HDMI input to your LCD.

Besides, it appears you haven't dealt with eBay India before going by your statement. eBay deals are quite trustworthy and they had some real jaw-dropping offers for the PS3 slim a couple of weeks back. ;)

@dinjo: How does positioning the PS3 slim in a vertical position help? It doesn't have holes on the side unlike the PS3 phat.

Then you ought to try it out. It's very convenient to be honest. I order pretty much everything online these days. Plus you can also use those Ebay Coupons to get a good discount on their products. It will save you quite some dough. The only real advantage of buying from a Croma showroom is it's 'Extended Warranty' offers. If you're worried about Ebay deals going wrong and you're money being messed up in the process, just trust PaisaPay. Rest assured, if anything screws up, you will be refunded.

Yep. Pretty much every LCD monitor, with multiple inputs, has the option to hot swap between the video signals with the touch of a single button. I do the same thing with my Xbox 360 which is connected to my Dell S2409W via HDMI.

As for your speakers, you'll need this converter:

Just connect your composite cables supplied with the PS3 to the console and the audio out to this converter. The 3.5mm jack of the speakers can be inserted into the female 3.5mm of this converter.

That is one way of routing the audio. The other way would be to direct connect your speakers 3.5mm lead into the back of your monitor. If I'm not mistaken, the E2200HD has two audio ports at the back. So directly connect the speakers to your monitor and the sound will roll over automatically once you switch to HDMI.

@All : Thanks for the inputs, I have no more doubts about audio & display.

Regarding Ebay, I too buy everything online, in fact I like to buy only online but I have never tried Ebay. It seems to complicated for me :-) Anyways just checked Ebay, cant find any good deals. If anybody finds them plz post it here.
 
Though you will find it in some PS3 manuals(not all,mine says keep it if you want) saying not to put the console in vertical position
 
The slim should not be kept in the vertical position without the additional accessory which has those rubber feet/stand-offs which makes it sit on a surface firmly. One knock and it could take the PS3 with it!

Besides, that 'click' noise is pretty much present on the older phat units as well which comes when it cools after an extended gaming session. It's quite normal.

Congrats buddy! Ebay wasn't so difficult now, was it? ;)

Anyway for the games, you could try getting the platinum status titles which are the cheapest ones (Rs.1,500). Else look for used titles over in the Market section. You can also look forward to renting titles from Browse Library for English DVDs, Hindi DVDs, Tamil DVDs Rentals & other Movies

Get MGS4 first its now 1650, you will know how mediocre PC Games are after this
