don't buy it from palika. Many users are experiencing problems with PS3 these days. I think Lord Nemesis (TE member) got his PS3 replaced due to the same problem. Regarding movie DVDs/BRDs, they are not region free, so if u buy a PAL PS3 u can't play movie DVDs/BRDs from US.

Also one more point which is not important to most people but important to some. A PS3 cannot connect to a computer monitor (VGA) without a VGA box or something. I hate playing the Xbox on the TV since on my TV, the text is rather unreadable. So you have to keep that in mind also.

I myself have an Xbox 360 and I am quite happy with it. But the fact that you need to pay money to play live is a bit of a downer.

u can connect ps3 to a comp lcd via hdmi to dvi cable.

He mentioned that he is buying with warranty. So it should be fine.

As for the playback of DVD and BD, monty is right, you cannot play discs bought from another region, but there seems to be a decent number of region free BD movies too.

If I got it correctly, do you mean that BR game DVDs are region free but BR movie DVDs are not?
What do you think about the prices which I'm getting from Pallika guy? Keep in mind that I've not yet visited that place. It was just a phone verification from me. I got the idea from retail outlets; it is costly out there.
What do you think about HDMI cable? Whats the best & recommended one?

yup, BR game DVDs are region free but BR movie DVDs are not.

palika guys always tell high prices thru phone. Go there and found out prices from some shops.

no idea abt HDMI cable...

Any recommended shop or any of you guys have come across whom you trust & will give good price in pallika?
Is the bargaining possible? If yes then upto what extent can one sell me PS3, if thru phone they quote 23500/-?
What about HDMI cable? which one is the best?

one more thing:
as you said that BR movie DVDs are not region free but my question is that if I get BR movie DVDs from States or Canada, will the PAL version of PS3 (40G ver) play them?

Besides games, and BlueRay, I really enjoy being able to share my movies and music over the network via DNLA with the PS3, especially now that the PS3 plays DIVX movies.

You can use Windows Media Player 11 or Nero Media Home or a program called Twonky to initiate a DNLA server on your pc which can be used to share media with the PS3.(Mine is wireless, so I can watch DIVX movies from my pc over a 54G wireless router.

^4USB ports on the 60GB/20GB, 2USB ports on the 40GB.

No HDMI cable bundled.

My 60GB boxpack included:

1) PS3 (duh!)

2) 1x wireless controller

3) Composite AV cable.

4) Motorstorm

5) power adapter

for the HDMI cable, all I meant was which one is the best in market to buy or atleast the recommended one?

any known shops to anyone in pallika to buy PS3 from? I mean if anyone might have come across a shop there who can be trusted?

You can get any decent HDMI to HDMI cable. These things cost from 600/- to 2000/-. I got a Joytech brand HDMI to HDMI cable for 1200/- at the local Planet M. It has very good cable quality and gold plated connectors. I bought it in order to use it with a HDMI to DVI adapter to connect my Monitor, but later got a seperate HDMI to DVI cable too.

couple of things again:
PS3 supports HDMI ver 1.3 but normally LCD tvs in India are on HDMI v1.1 or 1.2 which donot support audio. Those who have PS 3 with HDMI cable, do you face same issue or is it just a myth? Do you need another cable for audio apart from HDMI?

Is it true that PS3 supports avi format too? because the website says:
Supported video formats are MPEG-1, MPEG-2 (PS / TS), H.264/MPEG-4 AVC, MPEG-4 SP.

HDMI 1.3 is for the following:

Increases single-link bandwidth to 340 MHz (10.2 Gbit/s)
Optionally supports 30-bit, 36-bit, and 48-bit xvYCC with Deep Color or over one billion colors, up from 24-bit sRGB or YCbCr in previous versions.
Incorporates automatic audio syncing (Audio video sync) capability.
Optionally supports output of Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio streams for external decoding by AV receivers.[9] TrueHD and DTS-HD are lossless audio codec formats used on Blu-ray Discs and HD DVDs. If the disc player can decode these streams into uncompressed audio, then HDMI 1.3 is not necessary, as all versions of HDMI can transport uncompressed audio.
Availability of a new mini connector for devices such as camcorders.

.avi? It supports divx and MPEG4. No native .mkv format.

In Delhi/Gurgaon, which'll be the best place to go for it? One shopkeeper in Pallika is selling PS3 (with 1 wireless controller, remote control & AV cable) for 23500/- (with warranty). Additional controller for 2000/- & HDMI cable for 800/- PS3 games are for 1500/- onwards

I'm sure that in sony world or retail outlets, it'll be bit expensive.

Is it the 60GB version? The prices from Sony India Website is: 25K for the 40GB PS3 and 30K for the 60GB one.
