Hi guys,

Well it seems my patience is finally going to pay off. My dad is going to Singapore for a couple of days very soon. And I have decided to buy a PSU (yea h yeah I know, warranty issues) and a sound card from there. I went through all the shops listed in vr-zone SL price list (sim-lim-tower) and have listed a select few. My criteria:

- MODULARITY is a BIG PLUS POINT
- Dual Rail Not MUST (but hardly any MODULAR PSUs w < 2 rails)
- > 350W on 12V rail(s)
- > 20A on 5V rail
- Tight voltage regulation, i.e. should not drop rails under load..... 11.90V to 11.80-11.85V under load is fine but 12.21V to 11.80V is not.
- Should be readily available in SIM LIM TOWER.

So matching these criteria and availability in SimLimTower (dunno much about Funnan IT Mall shops):
- ENERMAX Liberty 620W @ http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817194004
- ANTEC NEOHE 550W @ http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817103941
- SEVENTEAM ST-650EAD @ http://www.seventeam.com.tw/front/detail.asp?lang=eng&ID=111
- FSP FORTON SOURCE EPSILON 700W @ http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817104015
- SEVENTEAM ST-550EAG @ http://www.seventeam.com.tw/front/detail.asp?lang=eng&ID=50
- TOPOWER (OEM Suuplier of OCZ Powerstreams and TAGAN) 600W SG @ http://www.topower.com/sg/power_sg.html
- OCZ Powerstream 520W @ http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817711002
- PC Power and Cooling 510 TURBO SLI @ http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817703001
- SKYHAWK POWERONE 640W (same as Zebby 640W)
- ANY OF THESE XCLIOs @ http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...4=&ATTR5=&ATTR6=&ATTR7=&ATTR8=&ATTR9=&ATTR10=

What you guys think? Should I go and make sure in VRZ forums about the availability. My budget: Around $200.

Also, regarding the sound card..... its either going to be:

- Audigy 2 ZS 7.1 (SG$99 cheapest w/o box and SG$150 cheapest w/ box)
- Xfi Xtreme Music (SG$203 w/ box)

My logic: I am not gonna invest in sound in a long long time after this, so why not get a good one and call it a day. So which one should I go for?

Regards,

Karan

PS: My dad going around 20th. Hence posting early so I make a informed decision.
PS2: BTW I am from India :hat1:

always better to get PSU locally for warranty :)

Audigy 2 ZS 7.1 SG$99 cheapest w/o box
good deal IMHO :hap2:

^^ What if the Card is Dead on Arrival? :P.

4get the XtremeMusic. You only have a 5H, not a 7.1 home Theatre.

PSU, id say go with the Enermax Liberty 620W or the TOPOWER 600W.
:cool2:

Are you guys blind or what ?

Man Karan, get the PCP&C anyday !! Undoubtedly the best from that list..

Output +5V @ 40A,+12V @ 34A/38A,-5V @ 0.3A,-12V @ 2A,+3.3V @ 30A,+5VSB @ 3A

MTBF >100,000 Hours

You must really be lucky to afford a PCP&C cause few can shell USD 219 on a PSU...;)

As for the Soundcard, X-fi Xtreme Music should cut it.

this is the 1 to get karan

SEVENTEAM ST-550EAG

when i was in singapore i was gonna buy this but i had to pickup the tp2 550w from india before i went to singapore due to some problems

this SEVENTEAM ST-550EAG costs 4400rs in indian when i was in singapore.

go to simlim then go to fuwell. they had it. its a kickass psu.

u can check the review here on vrzone. its 1 solid psu.

I beg to differ about the sound card.

Hes not a music freak. Plus he does have awesome speakers. Rather he has no speakers.

The 5H wont benefit from anything above a Audigy 2.

He uses it only for Gaming.

Also, id go wih a dual rail PSU, since you have a high end Gfx cards, Its better to have the Gfx Card on a seperate rail, to prevent voltage fluctuations.

PSU: Get the OCZ powerstream if it fits into your budget, or else pick up the Enermax Liberty.

Soundcard: X-Fi XtremeMusic or Platinum based on budget.

yaar, only 1 issue.... look at the review..... they are calculating the power supplied assuing a 90% efficiency. thats grossly increasing the value. the best efficiencies we have now a days is 70-75%. (no i am not talking about PF efficiency.)

$219 is a big punch for a 510W (rated, does 600W+ easy) PSU, but you get what you pay for, ultimate line regulation (vdroop = 0.03V, beat that.)

karan if you are getting XFI becareful dont get the older version they have some issues with nforce4 :P

Get the fortron 700. Its the only psu less than 200$ that supports two X1900XT cards in crossfire reliably. Thats something even the PCP&C 510 can't do. The only thing better than the fortron is the PCP&C 850SLI which costs a bomb.

If ur gonna be using only headphones then i dont see any point in going above the Audigy 2 ZS. $99 is a great deal. Oh yeah and just check out www.sg.hardwarezone.com. The prices on Vr-Zone were updated on like 19 Feb, hardwarezone has the latest prices.

guys.... i only plan to use headphones (dunno if later i get a Z5500 fad then i could purchase a sound card to go with it) for now and plan to do LAN gaming :ohyeah:

so would it be better if I got one of those USB sound cards? that would ensure that I would get the same sound in home as well as LAN. what you think? also, any brands come in mind?
